Bike just shut off.

So I was just going to ride to the store down the street and the bike just shut off on me.
I start the bike and let it run while I put on my helmet then idle out of my apartment complex. In first gear I went across the road and into the turning lane, pulled in the clutch and the rpms went to 0. the gauges were still functioning. I turn the bike on and off and nothing happened. The fuel pump doesn't prime.
I was thinking maybe a bad fuel pump or a bad voltage regulator. Where should I start?

Seriously tho, what happens when you turn the bike on and skill switch on, then push the start button? Nothing at all? If so is your ignition fuse blown? If so your relay is prolly bad. If not, walk us through what happens.

On another note, glad you are okay. Sounds like that could have been a dangerous situation

It was just like I hit the kill switch actually.
When you turn the key on the gauges cycle, when you turn on the kill on the fuel pump does prime. Nothing happens when you hit the starter.

I'll head down now and check the fuses.

Ok, so the ignition fuse was blown. I had one spare 15. I replaced it and turn on the bike and kill switch. As soon as the kill switch was turned on the fuel pump primed, but was weak and the lights and gauges dimming/flickering then it blew the fuse. Didn't even try to start it.

I got $20 on your relay. I believe it is labeled as the ignition relay. $5 at harley

Is that also in the fuse block?

negative. If it is a bolt, the fuses are on the right and relays are on the left. If it is a lightning then there will just be 2 separate boxes on had regular ass fuses and the other has either 3 or 4 grey relays

Replaced the Ign replay and same thing happens. As soon as the kill switch is on there is 3 sec. of flickering and then pop. the fuse blows.

For a minute I thought this was going to be an easy fix.

Check the connections on the fuel pump it might be shorting out somewhere. Just a thought

weak battery? maybe a safety precaution... "As soon as the kill switch was turned on the fuel pump primed, but was weak and the lights and gauges dimming/flickering then it blew the fuse....from the book: "A 30 Amp battery fuse links the ignition key switch and the battery". worth looking at also, go to your service manual under electrical, should be chapter 7, go to Ignition relay, has the key switch relay and battery fuse info there, also testing info, good luck

If their is one it's on the positive coming off the battery follow that wire.

That one's a bitch to get to. I cut the wire and installed a new fuse holder with just a regular buss style fuse in it and called it a good time. Pretty sure I saved money by doing that too. The fuse that's originally in there was pricey so I got the new holder and a 5 pack of fuses for like $10.

Could it be bad ground or partially discharged battery?

Dusty I would also like to see pics.
I'm leaving the bike on the tender today to see if that helps. If it does then it is just a bad battery.

The battery is almost exactly a year old.

Battery wasn't the problem. I have had the battery tender on for 6 hours and with the tender on start mode the same thing happens.

If you're still popping fuses, you've got a short and need to find it. I'd start with the steering neck area where a lot of your harnass wires are bundled - it's a tight squeeze to get it up and through the neck to your bars and a common problem area for wires. Then I'd work my way back on the bike removing inner & outer airboxes, seat & cowl, checking wires as I went.
