Can I adjust my Buell Blast Idle? It's too weak?

I am having trouble with starting my blast from a stop. The friction zone is so tight and I feel like the idle is too slow. It's hard to get it going without stalling. I just took a course endorsed by the MSF and I rode a Honda Rebel. It had a nice friction zone and a strong idle so when I (slowly) released the clutch it would start going with no throttle needed. My blast seems to be really jumpy when starting from a stop. Would it be as simple as adjusting the idle screw? What is the idle screw located? The Blast has no Tach so I don't know what the RPMs are.

It's a 2003 with 1,700 miles

Don't be afraid to give it some throttle. First, make sure the clutch, cable, and primary are all adjusted right. After that, start in your driveway, crank the bike and pull the clutch in and out till you feel it start to grab. keep practicing that. once you have found that point, rev the bike so that from the sound of the bike and how far you have the throttle twisted back, you know about what rpm it is in. The limiter is 6500k.

Then just work with the clutch and throttle till you master it. I would find an old parking lot to really practice in.

Hope this helps. Also if you don't have any of the manuals, go to Buellmods.com and download the manual for your bike.

I've practiced but I still need some work at it. I also forgot to mention the previous owner put a different exhaust on the bike. He said the stock exhaust was too heavy and too low. It doesn't seem like a performance exhaust, it is pretty loud though. Could the exhaust be causing the really low idle speed? I attached a pic.

Thanks for the link to the manual. Should I just try to turn the screw a half a revolution clockwise to increase the idle slightly?

If he didn't rejet the carb with that exhaust it could be running really lean and causing some problems with idle

You need to practice take-offs, period.

A low idle doesn't cause stalling on take-off, not properly taking off does.

The only thing a low idle is going to hurt is your oil pressure at idle.

actually it looks like it's got the Vance & Hines SS2-R exhaust. How much leaner would that exhaust cause the system to run?

It can be pretty lean, ask him (if you can) if has has rejet the carb. If not you can get the kit for that pipe for $80 online.

The kit is a waste of money. I know you're talking about the DynoJet kit which we have proven time and time again is built wrong.

Instead of bugging the PO, just remove the bowl from the carb and see for yourself what jets are in it.

You can buy new jets at a dealer for about $6-$12 each.

You should be at 45/175 with .05" shims on the needle until you do something radical with the engine.
