Just changed out my plugs and wires with NGKs and aftermarket wires, and my CEL stays on. Could this be from having the plugs improperly gapped?

Got in a hurry one morning and tried to gun the throttle to warm her up.... fouled plugs FTL!

BTW, the Harley wires are crap! Can't believe they would put their logo on those cheap things!

Did you unplug your air temp sensor in your air box and forget to plug it back in? I've done that before.
Matt

CANT BELIEVE THEY WOULD PUT THEIR LOGO ON THOSE CHEAP THINGS ? Have you ever been in a Harley Davidson dealer ? They put their name on anything and everything ! [confused]

Not sure. Light is just on. l will check the sensor plug. Sounds like something I would do...

Do you know how to get your code? Here's how:
With everything off open your diagnostic port (lightning's will be under the seat/bolts in the front fairing). Look into the port and you will see 4 wire ends. Turn it so the little lock part is at your 12 o'clock position, then use something to jump the two wires on the right (screwdriver usually works best, but anything metal should be fine). With the wires jumped turn on your key and kill switch (but do not start the bike). Your CEL should come on, then flash rapidly about 8 times, pause, then flash slowly for the first digit of the code (the number of flashes is the first number of the code), pause 2 seconds, then slowly for the second digit of the code (again, number of flashes is the second number of the code). If there is a second code it will pause again, then do the same for the second code...when it gets to the last code it will just keep repeating them till you turn the bike back off.

Let us know what code you are getting and we can go from there!

Ok, first of all, thanks for your help.

If I read the lights correctly, the codes are 16 and 21.
I can't find a translation for 21 anywhere but BCRider says 16 is "Battery Voltage."
I replaced the spark plugs again and bought a new battery just in case.I charged it up with my battery tender. I tested the battery with a voltmeter; it was about 13DC I started the bike and used the voltmeter to test terminal to terminal. It started around 13 but gradually fell to 12.3 in about 45 seconds. Isn't it supposed to be going up? I revved it steadily at 3K then to 4K. It actually fell a little to 12.1.
After reading around a bit I think maybe the Voltage regulator or Stator? I did take all the fairings and cowls off to clean each electrical connector and make sure it was good and tight. I also checked the big battery (35) fuse and all the fuses by the fairing. Everything seems ok with no corrosion or excessive dirt.
I'm not very familiar in the electrical area so any help would be greatly appreciated.

By the way, my warranty expired last month!

21 is your exhaust actuator...check to make sure that is plugged (if you still have the stock exhaust).

16 could be the stator...I had the same problem a while back, but I was under warranty (fortunately!).

To check the stator, Make sure the battery is good. unplug the stator you'll see a small plus + on a 2 pin set usually (2 wire) connector.careful not to break the folding clips. Trace the wires down so you get the right ones. You may have to remove the scoop just for site purposes. A Digital Multi Meter should do for testing. Ohms scale should Read zero. Also check the grounds Don't run the bike while testing the stator,or the key ON! Hope this helps in some way.

Sorry i have no help for this thread. I just wanted to say plus one rep for miami. I probably would've never known about the CEL blinking for the number trick.

Ok, the stator test: I trace two sets of wires. One has a plus and minus symbol on it. The other is grey. These are coming from the voltage regulator and are on the right side of the bike. Where does the stator plug in at? I'd like to check the infamous "77" connector. Where is this connected at? I read that '09s don't have the old plug but I'd like to be sure.
Is there a procedure to test the voltage regulator as well? I was hoping I could find an exposed wire or blown fuse but that is not the case...
I have an '09 and the service manual is for an '05, so it looks different.

Thanks for your help.

Oops, sorry, correction. The wires coming from the voltage regulator are on the left side of the bike. I had to remove my lft hand scoop to get to them.
