Today I rode about 8 miles and noticed the solid red check engine light come on. I was in 80°F Hawaii weather and cruising mostly in 3rd gear with RPMs between 2800 and 3800, never pushing it hard. After I noticed the light I pulled over and shut off the bike. I waited for a minute or two then turned the bike on. The engine light didn't come on again during the 5 mile ride home.
I checked the oil when I got home and it was on the "add 150mL" level. I was wearing shorts for my ride and the frame felt pretty hot on my legs, but that could be normal since this was my first time riding in shorts in forever.

Anyone know what could cause this? Possibly overheating due to low oil?

If it was on the stick then oil wasn't the issue, these bikes do run pretty hot and transfer that heat to the frame which makes a wonderful heat sink. Try jumping pins 1 and 2 on the diagnostic port turn the key on and have the kill switch in the run position to see if it stored a code.

Run through this thread for more info on checking the codes.
