Went riding with a buddy today and had a somewhat close call. We where out riding and riding somewhat aggressive (mainly just threw the twisties). So we turn on this road and we're behind a newer Ford Taurus looking car on a straight away. Coming up to a railroad crossing(no stop sign). In my peripheral vision I see something white moving very fast down the tracks torwards the road. I focus in and realize it's a dog.The car in front of us had no time at all to do anything. I immediately started slowing down. The dog got hit by the car went under the car rolling between the tires and flew out towards my bike. By being aware of my surroundings and reacting quickly I was able to stop maybe a centimeter before hitting the dog.
The dog didn't fare to well though. He ran of and was very dazed running in circles. Needless to say he didn't make it. Nice looking Pit bull too (to give you an idea of the size of the dog)
So the reason I felt like sharing was because it made me realize the significance of always being aware of all of your surroundings and ATGATT (all the gear all the time). No matter how safe you are and cautious you can't control you surroundings. If i was in the place of the car I probably would have ate $#!+ and wouldn't have been able to avoid it at all. Situations like this make you respect your gear and the fact that you may sweat or be uncomfortable don't seem to be that much of a hassle. (and yes I was sweating today in FL in December [down])
