Hi all I am new to this forum.

I'm currently looking at getting a 2004 XB12r from a guy. It has 5000 miles. kBb values it at $3700 in excellent condition. However, it was wrecked at the end of last year. I'm weighing the cost of repair to how much it's worth. I'm posting to see if I can get ideas for fixes and how much it will cost so I can figure out how much to offer the guy.

I'm going to look at the bike directly tonight so I will be posting pictures.

What I know is wrong with it:

Fairing stay is broken at the base
One mirror is missing
Header going into exhaust is smashed
Front rim is broke
Needs a new front tire

Those are all the obvious problems that I found from pictures.

He said that he put a Spy ECM in and a carbon fiber kit on before it was wrecked.

Any help on cost of repairs would be great!

Thanks in advance! I'll post pictures later

eh, doesn't sound like its that bad. I would worry the most about the header being smashed, and any issues with the forks resulting from a front end collision.

Brake system, rotor prob destroyed as well. The wheel $300ish, rotor $200ish, steering head bearings $40ish, tire $120ish, exhaust header $200(used)-$450new. Fairing stay $140, soo there some base numbers to start with

You didnot say how much he was asking for it? If the forks are ok ( from the sound of the damage there not) Crashes numbers are good. The bike may be worth buying just for the parts that are good if the price is right?.

Why don't you send us the link or post the pictures and price up here. You might get a better estimate

If the front wheel broke in the accident, I would definitely be worried about the forks being bent and/or issues with the triple trees, and definitely the steering head bearings as already stated. Would need pictures or look over the bike real good to know for sure.

Here are a few that he has sent me. I will be getting more tonight. Also it needs a new battery

Yah defiantly need new rim. Not sure about the rotor or forks though. I don't think he collided with anything, just hit the road after slamming on breaks

there's a thread on the fairing stay being repaired at that same point, new stay at surdyke.com $111.96 ...P/N: L0940.02A8, L mirror...P/N: N061.2A8, R mirror...P/N: N0162.2A8 $15.68 each at surdyke.com can research the other numbers if you need 'em, my 2 cents...build it, you can find the parts either on the forum, Buellsterparts.com, surdyke.com, newcastleharleydavidson.com, LSHD1.com, ASB...good luck

Tack on some labor at a machine shop if the header studs broke, which they most likely did.

It's hard to believe their was no collision with the wheel looking like that, but who knows. He must have been hauling, I've not seen a header be that destroyed before. Usually its only a couple dents and some road rash. Good luck on it regardless. It needs a lot of love, but for the right price in the end you could certainly walk away with a nice bike.

Also - you might want to check into the wiring too, depending on how badly the front fairing was ripped around after the fairing stay broke. It's just being help up by the wiring right now.

Bet you those forks are ****** as well.

You're looking at some good money to fix it:

Fairing stay ~200-250
Front fairing ~75-100
Front wheel ~150-200
Forks ~250
Misc ~100

Thanks for the part numbers!

Where would these be located?

I found a rim on ebay but its at $400. Still looking around for any cheaper ones.

Not worth it imo. Buells aren't that expensive and regardless what people say the parts are getting harder to find which means they are getting more expensive.

if you can, since the keys are there, turn the key to on and see if the instrument cluster, lights, turn signals, and horn comes to life as well as the fuel pump, take a spare battery with you in case the one in it is toast. the oil leak could be from the oil cooler lines behind the header...talk the guy down from what he's asking if he really wants to get rid of it, cash talks, BS walks, good luck

BTW, ECMspy is a diagnostic tool program, not a part that can be installed on the bike, the guy is blowing smoke up your arse, trying to sweeting the deal

From the Pictures the oil line is pinched (understatement) that looks like where the oil is coming from.
Front wheels are getting harder to get cheap... as are all parts. What is he asking for it?
I wouldnt pay more then 1200 for it but thats me.
the engine is worth that alone if the mileage is correct?
Overall its a Tough fix.... in the end its going to cost you as much as getting a nice one that needs nothing.
Good Luck

i would be worried about the oil filter housing being mangled along with the oil lines. Id also be worried about the engine being oil starved (along with the other obvious problems). I would pass on this for anything but a parts bike.
