Hey Guys and Gals,
Bike died on the side of the road. Fan came on, gauges swept and engine light flashes code 26 and 77 (weird right?) Pulled it down and the black wire going to the bottom plug on the ECM had grounded out on the battery bracket. Taped it up and re-routed the wire. Turned on the key and the same thing. Gauges sweep and engine light flashes 26 and 77. Replaced the coil (it was sputtering a bit before this) Up to this incident the bike was starting to cut off with the engine light coming on. Then it would re-start while still in gear and keep going. it has 13,000 miles on the odo a race ecm and some header mods with a remus exhaust.

Nice steering column back and forth. Do the guages sweep at all?

Check your stator and VR connections.
Unplug ECM, turn key on then off. and plug back in.

That should clear the ECM.

Check rear head temp sensor

UMDterp.
Thank you very much. OK
Move steering column back and forth and the gauges do not sweep at all.
Stator and VR connections look good, no fraying or pinched wires there.

Unplug ECM, Turn Key on then off and plug back in.
Fan comes on

Un-plug Rear head temp sensor fan stays on.

Move ECM around while key is on and fan speed varies.

Pull #23 ECM fuse and blower stops, until you turn the key back on. Unplug the Black or Grey connector from the ECM and the Blower stops.

Move the ECM cable harness around and the blower speed varies.

So I think the blower wire is shorting out on something in the ECM harness. I will strip down the harness and see what I find.

I will let you know. Hopefully fingers crossed it is not the ECM.
Thanks again, keep the rubber side down.

Firefight 100.
Thank you man. I know 77 is just weird. Gonna try striping down the harness and see what happens.

just for your info if it helps in trouble-shooting.....your ecm receives constant 12 volt power......your fan receives constant 12 volt power. the ecm completes the negative or ground circuit to your fan to activate it. remember that when tearing into the wiring. moving the ecm "around" should have no affect on fan speed. closely check bottom of ecm and area where plugs enter ecm for cracking.

Thanks man that definitely helps. The fan speed difference was caused by the plugs loose on the ECM, not the wires. I will check ECM and plugs well. Do you know if you disconnect your heat probe if the fan is supposed to come on? Thank you.

i have no idea but if you're referring to the rear cylinder head heat sensor switch....if you unplug it and start bike i believe you'll very quickly have an activated CEL with trouble code #14 stored.
