I brought my 2003 XB9R to this Harley Dealer to put two new tires on it. Go to pick it up and the kid come out and says there is a problem. I was thinking to my self the bike only has 5k if he tries to tell me it needs wheel bearing im going to smack him. The door opens and there is my bike with a big dent in the gas tank, sctatches on the header and damage to the bars. FML

I need some advice. The owner want to fix it all in house. My biuddy says go through insurence. I know my insurence company is going to see the frame and total it. I paid $3,800 for the bike 2 months ago and its insured for 6k. I love the bike more than anything and it has been babied its whole life. What should I do!?!?!?![confused][mad]

Take the insurance money buy a new bike tell the dealer you want a smokin deal on a 1125 for the trouble

I would let their insurance company handle it, not yours. It's not your fault and it shouldn't go on your record.

i'm back and forth on this one, my first option would be a new bike, but then you would be bringing it back to that place and buying it from them most likely, the other problam with insurance is that you can't buy a new bike for 6k and insurance companies don't like to pay out... personally it's a toss up. If they fix it, I would work a deal to get more than just "fixed" (ie. free tires, fix the damage completly with new parts, maybe more including any maintence that was needed) if they don't wanna go for that, insurance would be the only option.

I agree with kyle dewald let them hook you up
is it normal for them to ride a bike after they put tires on it?
i bet they know they have messed up bad and will probably go with your demands

We test ride every bike we work on. You want a new frame, new bars, and new headers. I wouldn't want a frame "fixed". Be sure the title stays clean too. I have seen insurance companies fix bikes with frame damage and end up with a salvage or rebuilt title. Dealer did.. they have to make it right.

and if you can....see if you can score your 'wrecked' bike
would be nice to have spare parts ;)

Yeah another thought is even if it does have a clean title if your an honest person you let your next buyer know "hey its been wrecked but was repaired". So it wont hold resale value as high.

nope, go through insurance. what if you are not happy with the repair the dealer does? you are ******. and, like browland just pointed out, your resale is ****. go through the insurance.

...if they do repair the bike. Make sure you insist that they order a new frame.

I would be interesting to see how easily they can get a hold of one. I the meantime, get a loaner from them and drive the snot out of it!:D

Im 21 they wont give me a loaner....in the state of MA you have to be 25+ to rent any motor veichal.

what!? 25? It's 21 here in Alabama and they've rented to me even when I was 18. I got a brand new 2009 dodge trcuk one time, literally new. had about 300 miles on it.

I don't think riding a loaner is the same as renting a vehicle.

Insurance might seem like a good idea, but keep in mind if you're only 21 they're going to try to rape you for years because of a totaled bike claim. If you're willing to go through that, I'd collect the $6k from the insurance company AND make the dealer pay you something nice for your trouble. I'd talk to the dealership owner and see what his plan is. I'd bring up the fact that one of his employees already trashed your bike, so why should you trust them to actually fix it. Either way I think your best bet is to still go through the dealership, make sure you get a new frame with a clean title, and make sure the dealership sets you up with a nice race kit or something else to be worth your trouble.

I've gone through plenty of hassles with the triumph/bmw dealership here in pittsburgh and they made me hate life. I got one of their bmw gs650s for a loaner once, I didn't use the clutch to shift all week. Haha, it's the small things in life that count. Definitely see what your options are before you decide though.

Yeah you have to be 25 in Oregon to rent a vehicle too. You are just in a bad situation bro. Just make sure you are happy to what ever the results may be.

Sorry to hear that man, take the insurance route as everyone else has said the bikes is tainted now never gonna be the same. Especially since you were not the one to do the damage. There are still buells available to buy new. Insurance money + the deals = a sweet deal; new bike (another virgin)paid in full!

what do you mean the bikes insured for 6k? if the blue book is x, thats all youre going to get. If that bike is your only means of transport, the dealers owes you $ for everyday you don't have it regardless of your states rental laws. Personally I'de write them a letter requesting a written explanation of the events leading to the bikes damage, then I state my demands. And ask that all future correspondence be in writing. And of course don't be afraid of telling them you are willing to let your attorney handle the matter. someone else may have better advise

The shops insurance should be in front of yours. As far as being happy with the repair.. a dealer will be fixing it anyway, not the insurance company. You don't want to claim it on yours..hell YOU didn't do it! Every insurance job we do, we quote new factory parts, period. If the tank is scratched, we get a new factory painted tank. No repairs to damaged parts. That's the way insurance companies want it. You might want to have your insurance guy do an estimate to keep the dealer honest though.
