The other evening I sat down at the bar of my local pub and noticed the guy next to me had one of those slick Brit motorcycle mags. It was the current issue of "Bike" magazine. It was open to an article about 2nd hand bargains and the top pic that took up most of the page was a Firebolt 12R. I said "Nice bike, I just sold my 9R" He replies that Buells suck and he would never own one and they all have problems yada yada... Did he not just hear me say I owned one? Probably not since it was a bit noisy and he did not seem like a total *******. Anyway I find out he owns an Aprilia Shiver that he just got and it's his first street bike. I ask him how he knows so much about how bad Buells are and he says his riding friends all talk crap about them. Hmmm.. I ask him if he or his friends who made these statements have owned or rode any Buells. He says no, it's just what he hears a lot. I proceed to defend the marque while addressing their shortcomings and highlights and at the end he does admit that Erik Buell is innovative and maybe he misjudged the Brand.

I hate ignorance so I correct it whenever possible but perceptions are hard to overcome sometimes.

Seems to be the pattern for everyone that hates on buell, my buddy did the same until he rode mine on a twisty road....

Cant say ive ever heard anyone bad mouth buell but alot of people dont think highly of harley and id assume they would just be pairing the buell with sluggish sporty motors that leak oil all over. Thanks for keeping us relavent, its nice to see Bike magazine hasnt forgoten the Buell.

and untill you drive a buell it may be hard to understand but once you do its hard to forget.

It's funny how they get such a bad name. I want to know what is a better, more reliable bike than buell. Maybe BMWs, but shoot, those are old guys bikes.

Like GSXR's are great? Well why isn't anyone riding one in Moto GP? They qualify. Oh and Ducs are sooo great right? Well why is it that the best rider in the world, Valentino Rossi switched to ducs and cant get better than 6th place now.

Oh and while I'm ranting, F*** harley!

haha/\ that made me grin. They all got probs but yeah i hate blind brand bashing too.... ride it once or ride with it and u might change ur mind right.
Maybe BMWs
I would buy one but they r so damned expensive compared to a buell

I also think it's funny how they have a bad name, and then when I'm meeting up with some friends for a ride, they are all adjusting/lubing up their chains, and talking about needing the valves adjusted as if it's a bonus feature.

Initially when I read that I say in my head, "what a d-bag", but as I re-read it, he has no foundation for supporting his own ridiculous statements. It's not even the Buell piece that rubs me the wrong way, it's the fact that he self admittedly doesn't know anything about the bike.m

Guys like that aren't even worth the conversation because they won't be able to build a compelling argument as to why " Buells suck and he'd never own one!"

Credit for sticking up for our bikes though Alphatango! [up]

In a town of like 30ish bikes i very often get "Your bike is the best bike in town."

Well well, you know what they say, ignorance breeds hate, and vice versa! 90% of the motorcycle enthusiasts "I" come across just stop & stare.. there is just so few on the road per capita, that they know it will be ahwile before they see or hear one again.. "hey, coool man, wow that thing sounds great.. now, I could listen to that all day, rather than the resonant howl of a four! what kinda' power does it have again?" I just tell them, oh about 85 foot pounds of torque, probably more with the mods.. and most of that just above idle, up to well over a 100 horse at 5 grand or so.. just about the rpm a four is starting to get out of it's own way! the looks are priceless as they try to comprehend..
