Ducati must not be happy...

Yes most of the actual mufflers have moved down and are covered with plastics, what you see are really resonators just like what the 1190 has.

I believe I remember reading that Japan had some spec where the exhaust exit had to be a certain height.

Don't care about the muffler. Nose on it looks okay to me; with development time, I seriously doubt there was any influence from the 1190RS. The split "tank" is garden variety fugly though.

Ducati doesn't do "sore loser." Well, with the probable exception of MotoGP. They can't be happy campers in that department.

i have no efffin clue what any of that means? what in the hell? talking in tougues like that??[confused]

I wish the Buell would just dump the exhaust to the ground instead of having that ugly pipe coming back up. Ruins the lines for me.
Couldn't agree more. That coolest thing about Buell is the under slung exhaust i think. The ugly pipe coming up just looks bad and takes away a cool "unique" factor of the Buell.
Yeah i hate how we lost our underslung exhaust .
The 1190 is still underslung. That is an added piece to meet EPA requirements.

gotta say i have been following this new duc for a while, and on monday just gone i sold my CR in anticipation of a new duc. i thought it better now than when the panigale arrives for any potential buyers to compare.

think the rider was ambitious toe get all the chess pieces in one go. [smirk]

now i am jsut waiting. oh and riding the oompah. will never part with the oompah!

Okay, lemme clear it up:

right? reading up on it...

The most high tech, most powerful twin-cylinder production engine on the planet ... the new 1199 Panigale is a true revolution of the species destined to influence the entire sportsbike environment.

yada, yada, yada...sore losers!

What I was saying was that with respect to the superbike (The Panigale being the next gen SB), and the OP's suggestion that Ducati was some how a sore loser relative to the 1190RS, that Ducati isn't sore about anything. But, given that the Desmosedici has been finishing behind satellite Hondas and Yamahas in MotoGP, there they are probably not happy.

Any clearer, or is it just too late for me to be making sense?

well as we've seen over the years, Ducati has produced some great motorcycles and have been put on a pedestal so to speak, here comes along a 2 yr old company and kicks 'em off along with the other crotch rocket makers. as EBR 1190RS was named the best sport bike...that's what was meant by "sore losers". in doing so, EBR placed their name in the hat and also a contender to be reckoned with as the only American sport bike manufacturer. despite the company being a young one, the experience within holds volumes which I believe is keeping the other sport bike manufactures on their toes to see what's next from EBR. so like the norm, everyone is trying to out do the other on the 1190+ platform...engine, chassis, ergonomics, plastics design, etc...

Have to admit that Ducati is 1 sweet ride . It would be fun to take for a test spin .

Kicked 'em off...what? Magazine covers? Don't get me wrong, but US racing ain't what it used to be, and it (1190RS) hasn't won any titles here, or set the rest of the SB field on its ear either. Ducati has almost no presence in the US racing scene, but talk to me when EBR has won something.

And don't get this wrong either: I'm a fan of Erik's, EBR's and the 1190RS. It's just too early days to be fitting the bike with a crown.

talk to me when EBR has won something.
Having such a small budget this may never happen. I hope it does but racing is so different as you know and testing cost a ton of money, more development for the track takes a ton of time and money too. Hard to do without a major pile of cash. But as they say, win on Sunday, sell on Monday.

they are starting to all look the same to me. does this mean buells fall into the category of crotch rocket?[confused]

The 1190 is a crotch rocket for sure by most definitions. And one of the best too :D Now the XB's are a different story.

Word. "fighter" generally means high bars. I usually describe the firebolt as either a crotch rocket or a race replica-style w/ a HD motor.

anything that bends me in half to ride is a crotchrocket imho
:D
the streetfighter look to me has evolved from the standard look of of the naked bikes of the 70's & 80's and as Dave pointed out the higher bars also helped in the transition from crotchrocket to streetfighter as did losing alot of the plastics/fairings
[smirk]

i was thinking from an xb lightning or a tuber stand point when i asked that btw. my bars are high and i dont lean over to ride, i guess is a standard style position more then anything really. only time i do lean into my airbox is when its way windy and i dont want to be a sail lol.

I'd stick with the EBR personally, Made in the US Erik Buell is a nice guy and I bet if you rode up to their doors in Wisconson on your Buell or EBR bike they would be pretty cool to you, now if you did that with Ducati the response would not be bad by any means but just not the same. Along with buying a Duc you have the maintenance every 500 miles and of course you need to go into the dealership to get it done to get the annoying service lights turned off. I kow, I know it's a Duc but from a personal standpoint yes they are cool and Duc has been pushing boundaries for a long time but its everybodies love affair bike. I like to have a more unique taste, thanks but no thanks, I'll take the EBR, pass the turkey.
