Ok so like i said i'm new to a buell what is the best way to fill up a buell with gas cause everything i have read an 03 buell has a 3.7 gal tank with a .7 gal res. but both times i have filled it up with around 20 miles after the fuel light comes on, i can only fit 2.5 or 2.8 gal. Any thoughts

gobi: my 2003 firebolt is approx. the same. i ride it gently but when low fuel light comes on and i make it to a gas station pronto, i can squeeze about 3 gallons of fuel into it, that's about it.

I agree with Lunatic. Mine is the Scg. If I am city riding (sloshing gas in tank) the light comes on at about 120 miles. IMHO I think the light comes on too early but better safe than sorry right. Plus the older these bikes get the better it is to keep a tank full rather than low. That way the coating never dries or corrodes.

I don't remember the capacity but it's somewhere around 3 gal. I don't fill mine up all the way, if I do then when hot it leaks fuel from the fuel vent. I fill up until just under the "ring" inside the gas cap, with the bike on it's side stand. I usually don't get down to where the light comes on, the more fuel in the tank the cooler the fuel pump will run, so I try to never get below 1/4-1/2 tank.

ok thanks for that small but very useful advice Lesley
well I tried [confused] not sure what you want to know. What I am saying is when my light comes on from what I gather I could go another 60-80 miles. I have always averaged atleast 50 mpg so at 3.7 gallons you do the math. I've had the bike 6 seasons now and only once needed more than 3 gallons on fill up. I probably fill up early BTW.

In regards to the tank it may or may not be coated but it is still best to keep it full rahter than emty/low. Once again this just my opinion.

That's Lesley! Always giving out small pieces of advice(although usually not useful)

LOL Yes thats me with half the post count as snrusnak but the exact same amount of rep points. So I am guessing my percentage of useful advice far exceeds his.

Carry on big brain j/k

I don't think the low fuel sensor is calibrated, so you really can't compare to other bikes, also total capacity is not the same as usable capacity, I agree with previous post about the fuel keeping the pump cool, I use my #2 trip odo to judge fuel usage, at around 120 miles I fill up my Uly, usually about 3 gals, if I am on an extended ride with others I will wait till the light comes on, or others stop, which is about 3.8-4 gals of a total capacity of 4.8 gals.
I have >52k miles on my '08 and icecoldcoasty asked if my fuel pump primes becuase it is very quiet

LOL LOL good one lesley. i see sean just jumped into the rep points lead. reminds me of Smarty Jones trying to win the triple crown at Belmont park 7 years ago.

trying to win the triple
well I was told there were prizes involved. :D

on that rep point note I am pleased to inform you that I gave you the 100 point. [up] also an FYI: You can give yourself points. And yes I have done that. But I gave one to Sean too [up]

lol i didn't know you could give yourself points....I'll throw you a bone(besides you're still one behind me :) )

i'm new to Buell as well.

i rode @ 11 miles after the light came on and was able to get 3.3 gal of gas into my XB12.

i laughed about it.....3.3gal....

breaking the bank HAHA !!!!

My light comes on pretty consistently with 1 gallon of fuel left in the tank. Usually somewhere in the area of 120 miles on the tank.
