I have to agree with 03firebolt9r, just because I've done it with other Cops, Sheriffs, and CHP's on their bikes.
 
My point is there is no reference of "splitting" in the CVC laws. Yes it's legal, yes there is a difference in what the terms mean. But there is a very grey area of definition in the CVC code book.

You can also ride side by side. But like "splitting" it's entirly up to the cop to decide if you are being safe. Another grey area in the CVC code book. Of course if you feel that you were riding safely you can dispute the fine and fight it in court.

I guess I just want to let poeple know that there is no clear CVC code so don't go to court expecting to have any leverage from what you read here on the froums. The officer will win this type of case 10 out of 10 times. You best be lucky to try and get off from a violation of these sorts.
