Thanks BPG! What's the deal with the specs on the Buell page saying that the forks have a different diameter? Is it a typo or are they actually different? Thanks again [up]

They are different diameters. Thats why you need the lower triple clamp. The earlier years ('03 and '04) they were the same size.

No problem. [up]

This is a popular thread. Over 2800 have view this thread! I'm making a difference after all! lol :D

hey BPG ..I have a 2005 Firebolt .I want to lower it with Scg suspension. I want the black like on the new 2009 Scg . is the list in the above post the same for my firebolt for the black components.

.I'm sure I'm not the only one with an older buell that wants the blacked out suspension..and frame for that matter but i'll keep my frame for now ,may re-powdercoat it black at later date..
..

has anyone used the corbin lowered seat to help gain another inch or two.with the Scg setup on a firebolt.. and if so how comfortable is it on longer trips ...

Finally did the 09 Ss to Scg Lowering withe parts you gave me. All the parts except the lower triple tree (J0106.02A8CYT) were right on. The steering stops on the Ss are different than on the Scg. I'm not sure if there is another clamp available with the right steering stop, but I wanted to give a heads up before somebody else does the mod. Is there a different lower with the right steering stops? If not you will have to have something fabricated by a machinist. I had mine done no problem. Below is a pic with the two clamps. The top one is the oem Ss, and the lower is the Scg. You can see how the original has the stops in the center and the Scg has them on the outside. You have to remove the two outer stops on the new clamp and have one made to attach in the center.

Did you do the rear also? Please post pics I may be doing this to my wifes SS.

Wow very nicely done, that bike looks sick. This is something I'm defiantly going to have to do.

Yeah, the Ss has a different frame and steering stops from the Scg, so no matter what you would have had to do what you did. It turned out nicely though. Thanks for the info and how-to. The more informative this post is the better. Let's keep it going guys.

Thanks to BPG and everyone for this thread. I actually found this site while searching for "xb9 lowering." I have a 2003 XB9R I would like to lower. Does anyone know the difference between the CG forks and the regular? Is it just the springs, or is there more to it? I'd rather not buy a whole fork set if it's just springs or a spacer.
BPG---is there a distinct part number for a CG fork spring that can be ordered by itself?

Its everything is different about the fork. You can't just buy springs. It is most cost effective and sanity saving to buy the whole fork assembly. Trust me on this one.

got a little bird who wants to ride the xb9 but her heels are off the ground. these mods seem right but a little "spendy", will a rear shock swap make enough of a difference?

lata

Couldn't one just buy the rear shock and raise the forks in the triple ~.8"? Seems to me that would be the better option as you would still have ~5" of suspension travel...

Why aren't people doing that rather than spending hundreds on new forks? Is this not an option for some reason?
