Talking with a guy with a 2007 firebolt 1203, 6500 miles, and has a salvaged title. I am kinda hesitant on the bike, cause he says it was salvaged cause is buddy backed into it, and the only damage was the foot pegs being ripped off. He says he repaired it all. Does this sound fishy at all?

not horribly fishy... they are super easy to total bcuz they r valued so low. It would be hard to say if its a legit deal without inspecting the repairs. C if he has ne pics of it when it was damaged.

Peg damage only would not lead to a totaled bike. So yes that sounds fishy

I just got in an accident with both pegs, and other things ripped off, and it was no where near being totaled...I smell Flounder!

how do you break both pegs just by someone backing in to it? Sounds like it did some flipping, like my bike!

Well his buddy called me cause hes more mechanically inclined, and talked to me about my trade, and he said theres nothing wrong with the bike, just had a scratch and pegs broken off, so.... I dunno, its a two hour drive to meet up with him, meeting on the 2nd I hope. Dont really know how to figure out what really happened, guess I will just have to go by the buyers guide and hope for the best. Gonna take a buddy with me who has been riding for a while, hes more of a cafe racer style guy, but hes got more exp. then me. And hes got his cycle license, so he will be test riding it. Getting my license a little later, just dont have a whole lot of time to spend an entire weekend out of town to take my cycle course.

I just can't grasp him calling the insurance company because his "buddy" back into his bike, and knocking it over and breaking "both" 35.00 a set pegs, then them salvaging it. If this really happened w/ a friend, I would be like, hey ******* buy me some new pegs and some beer. Dude just be careful what your getting into. It just seems odd.

The frame could have been damaged and replace.....easy enough task. But it would have been totaled for that in most states....but I agree your not being told all the facts.

Yep. That's where I would lose interest. Telling you its wrecked but makingg it sound like a simple fix. Just like the dumb kids Ive seen trying to.sell. their stunt bikes. Wreck the **** out of em, bend the forks, subframe, swingarm, do all sorts of damage. But then tell you "o I just had to replace the plastics is all, bikes in damn good shape, I changed the oil every 3000." Bla bla load of ****. I would immediately wall away @ "salvage title but only due to broken / replaced pegs"

But seiously... U guys are prolly right the seller is obviously not disclosing all the damage that occured(just a set of pegs wont total a bike, unless its a harley j/k) But that doesnt mean it wasnt repaired properly. Maybe it did need a frame piece, i could see the chunk that the pegs bolt to snapping off if u knocked it over hard enuff. I guess im less worried about salvage vehicles bcuz i fix wrecked cars for a living and ive purchased a couple salvage cars. U just need to make sure it was fixed right and the damage and repair were documented.

Even then, I would think the rearsets would be damaged and could just replaced unless they were bent away and gouged the crap out of mounts on the frame. After his buddy back into it.. did he keep going? it would take some force to do that kind damage.

I'm not sure of the technicalities for an insurance company to junk the bike, and if its due to replacement parts being harder to find or what they are quoted (perhaps by the dealership to fix) being greater than the value of the bike (for the age + mileage depreciation). For 2007 with not a huge number of miles on it.. Two screw on 2 rearsets (at worst and remount the pegs and the rear brake part, shouldn't outweigh the cost of the bike unless they are charging some crazy labor fees, which is not unheard of but unlikely.
Unless there were no pucks on the frame and perhaps it got damaged/ruptured, when knocked over and needed to be replaced too. Just my two cents.

How much is he asking for it? with a salvage title it should probley go for around 1500 im thinking but could be wrong. if the price is right and it looks like its fixed correctly then i would go for it. i wouldn'y worry about a salvaged title

If you have to ask, WALK AWAY.
There are lots of clean babied garaged never-down Buell's around. Buy a nice bike - you deserve it!
