Yup I got an XB12R with an S tail that has never been down I would sell you for a good price!!! I would walk!!! Salvage means no Bueno!!!! IMHO

Well its a trade, for a dirt bike quad and trailer, he called me today and explained the details, it was more then just pegs, it was handlebars, pegs, scratch on chain cover, scratch on one of the grips, he says he took it to a Harley dealership to get a quote for repairs, then when he went back to get it, they called the insurance company and they decided to total it, he didn't understnad why the dealership would do that, so he bought the bike back and fixed the damaged items, and now has a salvaged title, I am going to take a look at it and go thru it with a fine tooth comb before I say yes or no.

Well still doesn't sound like it should be totalled IMO. big factors for totalling a bike are - tank damage (so frame), front fairing stay (if there is one), and swingarm. So I would start with those three. Lots of people are saying buells are obsolete so if you wreck them they just total them. That's incorrect from what I've been told.

Still doesn't sound "right" but you're obviously interested in this particular bike for some reason.

So, don't look for cosmetic damage that can easily be repaired (grips, pegs, etc). Look at deeper damage.

that bikes a tank!!! but an expensive tank....cost more to repair (by the dealer) then the bike was worth. but anybody on this site hows there easy to work on... soooooo maybe?

depending on the insurance company.. a total loss can result from the estimated damage to the vehicle being as little as 65% of the "Fair Market Value" of the vehicle. That wouldnt take much @ HD labor rates $90+ pr hour and their rediculous parts markup.

Values on these bikes are so low, it doesn't take much to total, my XB12s only had damage to the front forks, wheel, headlight, handbars, left shifter and left foot peg, both left side and r/s scoop, easy total loss. Frame was perfect as was the rest of the bike, parts are very high, new forks ran $336 for each tube, wheel was $330. Realy stinks to get stuck with a salvage title but I could not bear to see my XB go to copart on the back of a wrecker!!! Most total loss settlements for a salvage titled bike are normally about 1/3 less, some insurance companies won't even write a salvage titled bike. This one sounds like there is a story here not being told, has to be more damage that discussed.

eww that stuff is nasty... i bet if i made a full race suit out of it and crashed i would bounce right up!!
