Okay i have an 05 XB12R the i turn on the run switch and turn the key on and the fuel pump primes, then proceeds to run. it will run as long as the key and switch is on. To clarify i have not even started the bike. It sound like a fuel leak somewhere i was just wondering if anybody had any ideas or run-abouts with this issue. Thanks in advance.

Have a look at the links here:

I never heard back from the guy who had the issue so it might as well help somebody.
If you read through the various posts there is reference to the fuel pump running all the time - very possibly the fuel pump control line from the ECM worn through. If it is, your power wire could be a heartbeat away.

Ok Rays I'll have to give that a try this weekend or next most likely. I really appreciate the help and I'll let you now how it turns out

The fuel pump is supplied with 12 volts and is switched on and off via the ECM. There is a slight chance the issue isn't within the pump assembly but given the year of your bike I would take the trouble to look. With my '06 I must have been a whisper away from a blown fuse and stranded on the side of the road somewhere. I started to see the pump running continuously sometimes when I turned the killswitch to Run as the first sign.
If you look at the picture on the linked thread you can see the wires running over the aluminium bracket. On mine the wires were routed through the 'U' shaped section of the bracket and the sharp edge of the bracket had worn through the insulation - it appears to be Teflon insulation and is pretty tough thankfully.

If you have access to a multimeter you could disconnect the fuel pump and measure the control wire for the pump to ground (on the pump connector) - if your fault is solid you will probably measure a low resistance. In a good pump this would be an open circuit. The control wire is the Brown / Yellow one.

Rays pointed this out to me and saved me a ton of money. Shorted out from inner pump wires being vibrated through...blowing fuse. Unfortunetly I was stranded on side of the road before noticing. check it out mine is also an 06 bolt

Ok seattlebuell Thanks for your input I'll just have to garage the buell for a little bit work has been real busy and I have no time to mess with it

Rays thank you very much for your awesome right up. That was the issue and it got me going again. Thanks.

I'm glad to hear it helped you out. [up]

Unfortunately this is a pretty common problem and given the potential to cause you major issues (just as you pull in front of the Mack truck etc), I think this batch of fuel pumps without the protective cover on the wires should have been subject to a recall.
Given it wasn't all we can do is pass the word.
