Get my Buell to sound like a Harley, possible?

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

I have ridden with the following exhausts:
Jardine
D&D
Micron
Buell Race Can
Hawk
GB Exhaust
Voodoo

The closest one so a "Harley" exhaust is the D&D. Next closest is the Jardine.
Keep in mind Harleys get that deep sound from having pipes that are 1-2 feet longer than ours.

draxsonimy I had taken my packing out of my muffler and rewelded it but wasnt happy with it. So I cantacted randy and he gave me a discounted cause it was less work for him. Randy is the best business man I have dealt with and is always available for advice and guidance. Enjoy my hawk and glad to have made this choice.

I like my Drummer SS, its a deep rumble not overly loud like the the Jardine or D&D, I have owned many HD's and Drummer is the way to go.

Another vote for D&D. The closest sound to the harley "dragpipes" as you're gonna get aside from an actual straight pipe-which you do NOT want to do due to torque and power loss.

True that Captain. Most of us ride Buells because we love the American built
V-twin sportbike. There are so many HD's on the road right now. I like to be different and have people look and try to figure out what the hell I am riding.

ive had 2 bikes with d&d a 02 M2 and my 07 uly and i get tons of compliments from harley guys on how good my bike sounds. That high compression fast revving sportster motor is the best sounding engine to ever have a bar and shield stamped on it imo. And the D&D lets all that noise out without ne annoying cackle or flappy sound. Its still quieter than my dads 01 Heritage with V&H long shots. So its loud but not horrible. I'm prolly half deaf neway i work in a body shop and my first bike was a 75 sptstr 1000 with drag pipes(now thats loud)

when i want mine to sound like a harley i just hit the kill switch.

most harleys i see are broken down or sitting at a bar or coffee shop somewhere do they actually make noise?
that comment was not only unwarranted but completely inappropriate, sir. our motorcycles are built to the highest and most robust standards and never ever "break down" as you stated. do not ever post anything like that again or our corporate lawyers will be in contact with you.

Seriously Lunaticfringe. Us Buellers catch shit none stop from the HD community. I would say a good precentage of HD dealers I have dealt with love to sale you HD parts, but when you ask about Buell parts you get the immediate cold shoulder. I thought there was going to be 7 years of customer support from HD to support us Buell owners. So please understand when someone makes a crack about HD it isn't necessarily true but more so the frustration the many of us Bullers have felt.

i hear ya..agreed 100%...and am just in one of those quirky idiotic moods. the local H-D dealer here is pretty decent to us buell guys though i seem to be the only bueller in Amish country. i bust on H-D's and the lifestyle all the time to include anything concho or leather chap related but must say that they are very good if nothing else for our local economy as the main assembly plant is across the river from me.

I forgot to mention i get a ton of shit from harley guys too... like "thats just a f-ed up sportster" "wtf is that ugly POS" "nice crotch rocket" and mostly from my paps"im not gonna have to trailer that thing home again am i?"
Its all good though they're fun to pass!

Straight pipe it! Get a straight pipe that's a 2-1-2; so it comes out of the headers as 2, goes into one under the body, and comes out into 2 splitting the real wheel in half. Run each outlet along both sides of the wheel and there ya go!

Is this even possible? I dk. Would it look cool? Eh, maybe; in my head. Would I do it? Probably not. Do I love straight pipes? Yes I do!

I will have straights on my 1125 someday [up]

If you what a loud VERY good sounding "Harley" style pipe you need a force pipe. I have a force pipe on my 00X1 and it is the best sounding Harley motor I have ever heard, although straight pipes on a shovel head sound very good as well. The down side is it is VERY loud! When I ride it with "Harley" guys they always say damn that thing is LOUD! I have a Special Ops pipe on my 09 XB 12 SS and it sounds good but it does not compare to the force pipe on my X1. Just my .02

Yeah...The Force pipe on the tubers are freakin loud. My ears are still ringing from one that a guy let me hear about 3 years ago! :D

I like the way my Hawk sounds. It's deep and throaty at idle but a little less so through the gears. I've heard it next to a D&D and it's a bit deeper sounding IMO. I'm not sure you'll ever achieve the lumpy sound of a big HD with these bikes but it depends who's listening. Most people will say any pipe on an XB "sounds like a Harley" but then you'll hear a big twin with open pipes "thwopping" down the road and realize it's not quite the same. ;)
