hi i have a 04 xb12r and lately have been noticing a rattling noise on decel noise sounds as if its coming from the inside of the header so im thinking pinging or shits hitin the fan in there and today i noticed while i was trying to figure out the noise my header was glowin red hot you could see it wit the lights on a lil but when the lights were off it was very noticeable wondering if thats normal which i doubt but hey minds well ask

looked way brighter than in pic my camera just sucks

This is normal. As dim as they are i dont suspect a major lean issue. If the headers have a lot of Blueing, and the right side is unbearable then id suspect lean or running issue.

As forthe rattle, good luck! Could be a thousand things, unlikely "pinging" that event happens mostly during a hard accel, sounds like a bird chirping on these bikes, low rpm premature detenation sounds like a "knock".

Id check heade studs/nuts for being loose, front exhaust mounting bushings, primary chain tension.

yea like i said its way brighter than what the pic shows and its so hot have to ride wit my right leg way out
just got the cable and ecm spy but havent done nothin wit it yet

I had an annoying rattle on decel and it ended up being my timing cover.

The rivits were super loose

ok i'll check the timing cover for sure and just not worry bout the pipes then and just ride
thanks guys

Oh my god Xb12sLt .... that bike is fucking spotless ... I could eat off of those headers ....

Man:(......that was a picture off the internet. My bike is a dirty pig, it's in dire need of a good cleaning.

those pipes dont look normal to me. Those pipes should not be THAT hot unless you drove it like you stole it. mostly its a lean condition though that leads to hot pipes

well the rod bearings went out of her so i found the rattling noise so glowin pipes aint much to worry bout wit a dead motor

pulled the heads couldnt find nothin there pulled the jugs and boom knew what happened looking at the skirts of the pistons you could see the coating wearing off and you could see the same wear on the jugs and from experience i know its from excessive rod slop aka bad bearings which as a result of the rod slop cause that

[confused]
Wear on the skirts has NOTHING to do with your con rod bearings. On most automotive engines, you will see where the piston touches the crankshaft counterweights at BDC with a bent rod or spun bearing. The shirts will show you an overheat, etc.,

Time to go to the hardware store...drill out those rivets, tap with 10-32, and replace with stainless Allens. Much cleaner looking in my opinion. Do the same with those chin fairing rivets, I forget what size they are.

i said from EXPERIENCE like as in i've seen it before on other motors when the rod bearings go out it causes the rods to walk side to side a bit and giving that jerking action side to side like that pulls on that piston in a whole new way resulting in more skirt wear this is not somethin you'll read in a text book just something i've noticed on just about every engine i've pulled down wit bad rod bearings or bad rods if you have any experience with old john deere engines thats where you would really see it alot those old girls when they get a bad bearing it would throw it so outa wack the skirts would get all eaten up and sometimes crack out if you didnt catch it soon enough
