I honestly don't think a majority of buell riders on this forum even need a steering damper. I know I've never felt the need for one (and I ride much harder than most). My point is, if you feel like you need one, check your suspension, it's probably not set up.

but you are right most riders do not need one, but I agree with RT its good insurance.
set up your suspension maintain proper tire pressures avoid the potholes (if you can) and other inconsistencies in the road surface
keep your front tire down and don't strangle your throttle and you will be fine without one.
