I have a 2003 buell XB9R and i love her. It broke last summer and i didnt have the moeny to get it fixed or anything. I recently got some money to fix it so I took it to the harley dealer near me. I get a call from them saying that the trans needs to be completely rebuilt. i asked how much the cost would be to do the repairs and he guessed around $2000-$3000.

I bought this bike used for $3400 (NEVER buying anything used again cant trust people) and I really just dont know if it is worth it to fix it.

Any input on what I should do?

For that money either buy a new engine, or buy a new bike!

Or try to fix it yourself ;)

To me it is a no-brainer. I would part it out and buy another one. In no way is it worth fixing it unless you have a special attachment to it.

I'd say find a motor, try and get a new bike.. or..find a wrecked bike and swap motors. Then you'll have some extra parts to

No way I'd be paying that. I just paid $3200 for my 2003 xb9s this past June and it only had 3400 miles on it. Look for a new motor, or use it as an excuse to upgrade to a 12 motor. My bike runs great and when I get the money I plan on picking up the parts to swap in a 12 motor anyway(or selling my bike and buying an xb12). I wouldn't be surprised if it wasn't any more than a few hundred dollars in parts if you're up to pulling it apart some weekend.

I have the same bike. If it were me, I'd part it out at that price. We all love our Buells, but unless you can find a competent indy local that can handle the rebuild you don't have a lot of options. Cut your loses.

If it were me, I would pull off the primary cover, and have a look-see at the shifting stuff in there. If you have to, split the cases. It could be something very simple. Grab the manual, and have at it. These bikes are about as complicated as a riding lawn mower.

What Parts do you need I'm parting out my old motor and I have all the tranny left. I'll be willing to help you out and give you a good deal.

if you have just a little mechanical skill you can do this repair yourself. dont be afraid. positive thoughts: if you dont have the tools to do the job, you can buy them and the manual for alot less than the 2-3k. and then at the end of it, you have tools and experience. i cant tell you how good it feels to tear your bike half way down rebuild it and put it back together. just did it to mine for a sparkplug blowout. get to know your machine...youll be glad you did:D

Thank you all for your input.
My key problem is I unfortunately know NOTHING about the inner workings of motorcycles. I also am a full time college student and work 36 hours a week so free time (and adequate space) is kind of lacking.

Once again thank you for your input. I will either start looking at a new engine or you guys might see a bunch of parts up on the website soon
