easy outs break 99% of the time. but when i drilled mine i used a 1/4" drill bit and was able to pull the thread of the stud out in a long skinny wire. tap drill for a 5/16-18 is a letter "F" which is .257" 1/4" worked out perfect and i just retapped the hole to clean it up. no need to do a helicoil.

it's kinda rough but before you take it down to the shop you can try heating it up with a torch (small map gas torch) and backing it out with a long flat head screw driver. the heat should make it come out real easy. might save you some money

I was even using the tool as directed (not hammering it) and snapped. 1 for 1. Good ******* luck drilling out the hardened titanium easy-out.

Update: the shop called me today to inform me that the rear studs are doing the same thing. DAMNIT. Since there a harley restoration place he said they dont have the tools and arent set up to do it, so I have to pick my bike up from there tomorrow. Called my dad and told him the news, he did some research for me and found a place called "late model throttle buell repair" Long story short, this is going to cost me way more than I originally thought, and my season is over :(. I'm just hoping he can do it without having to pull the engine! he only charges 50 and hour, which is cheapest ive found, but said it would be a 15-20 hour job if the engine needed to be pulled to replace them both.

Update 2: My bad the place is called "Full Throttle Buell Repair" He's located in east troy, anyone heard of him?

You can pull the engine, remove both heads, drill out 4 studs, clean all gasket surfaces, and reassemble engine in less than that? It might be a little high for a shop that does it a lot but I don't think it's that unreasonable of an estimate.

He did say if engine needs to be pulled. If you pull the heads to drill the studs you need all new top end gaskets and should probably do piston rings. I swear it took 15 hours just to scrape the base gaskets off.

Hopefully the engine does not need to be removed.
