these things are terrible.. i also have a lightning with 6000k hid kit and those light up the road very well.. what have people done to these to help.. im not kidding at all.. my flashlight on my cell phone is brighter.. thanks

The reflective coating wears off. Instead of replacing mine every couple years I've decided to take the lights apart and will figure out a way to put a more long lasting coating on there. I'll be doing this over the next 4-8 weeks, will let you know what I end up doing...

Yea I need to do something with it. Its for sale right now and a guy from work wants it but needs to sell his

Your selling it just cause of the lights? Mine suck too even with the HID. Mine need adjusted though.

No I'm selling because I don't need two bikes... but the guy who wants it rides a lot at night and needs good lights

Idk if it will help.. the chrome on the inside of the lights is all chipped away.. gonna see about maybe getting some kind of paint that has a chrome affect..

You might want to check out Eastwood's products. I've used them before when restoring cars. I think they probably have some kind of reflective paint that would stand up to the heat. I didn't try to recoat the reflectors for my lights... I ended up replacing the whole assembly because I wanted new, but I don't see why this couldn't be done. Heck, you might even be able to get them chromed by someone, but that might be more $ than replacing. I imagine chromed reflectors would be the ultimate!

Are the reflector bowls steel? aluminum? plastic? depending on what they are once it's taken apart I'll figure out what to do. If plastic I'll try to find some sort of high heat reflective paint. Same with steel likely(or chromed like you said). If aluminum it could probably be polished.

they are plastic.. i have a guy coming to look at it today so if he buys it it will be his problem.. i was only going to fix for the guy i work with..

Buell had a customer satisfaction replacement a few years ago. When they replaced mine I felt like I had a search light where a candle had been.

They no longer honor the replacement, it ended in 2010 sometime IIRC.

Since the bowls are plastic it sounds like I'll be spraying them with something...or I wonder if I could make new ones to replicate them, from aluminum or such.

That would be cool if you could replicate them. On another forum a guy promises that just some high reflective chrome paint would work. Not sure though. I figured the HID kit would do it for me, but Im gonna have to replace my assembly or try it another way. Maybe Ill try the paint and give everyone an update.

December 2010 it ended I believe. $350 with labor I think they said it would be without the factory involvement.

It only takes about 1-2 hours TOPS to replace them, even if you aren't very handy. I've had teh whole front of my bike apart recently and could probably swap the lights in about 45 minutes. No way I'd pay someone for the labor.

I just want a permanent fix that's why I'm look for something other than a replacement that will do the same thing in time.

Hella has projectors that are a very close fit to the stock housings - a little ingenuity is required.

It was a piece of cake to replace the assembly. If you can turn a screwdriver and/or an allan key, you can swap out the assembly. It will take longer to get the fairing off than to swap out the assembly. If you just want to get the housings out to refinish them, it's only a couple of more simple steps.
