The reflective coating inside the light housing on the earlier "R"'s was subject to peeling and flakeing. There was a Cust campain a while back that replaced the old ones with new, but sadly it has lapsed. Only option is to purchase a new assy or have yours recoated. A shop that does Chrome plateing should be able to do it fairly cheap if you can find one. Other options are ASB or Buellster.
