Helmet Makes the Man

@Thaloc;

It's a great comfortable helm for the summer, it looks agressive and turns heads. But if you ride all year including rain (little rain is ok) then i suggest not getting it, it isn't rain proof...too many openings at the top of the lid and the rain will pour down your face [mad].

My helmet. Since I've got "fox" in my name I did a custom decal using reflective tape in the shape of a nine-tailed fox. They're good luck, and crafty S-O-B's like me!

Any first hand experience or is this just speculation.
Anytime i pick one up. Never bought one cause i dont want to buy a helmet that i dont trust.

Some realy nice lids posted Ive never seen before.Heres my current 2, my Arai RX7RR HAGA (most comfortable helmet Ive ever owned, most spendy too). The other is my spare. I love Suomy helmets, crashed in one and it did a great job of keeping all my goodies from getting scrambled, the other I had to trash.

Roweniii, what kind of helmet is that, carbon flip-up sport helmet? I'd be intrested to know make and model.

I got a new helmet a couple weeks ago, today was my first ride on it. I love the commodity that flip-up helmets provide, (with integrated retractable sun visor) but I also like light weight and good aerodynamics. So, I got this, an HJC R-Pha Max, flip-up, lightweight, high-end, retractable sun visor, good aerodynamics.

(I think it's called RP-Max on the US)
My previous helmet was a Airoh Miro and also own a Momo Devil.
What can I say, wow, the HJC is superb in every way! Has a couple imperfections, but nothing important. Have never considered an HJC before, but for the reasons stated above I got this one.
The only thing I don't like is the design. I love everything else compared to my previous helmet. Lighweight, much better aerodynamics (Airoh made my forehead hurt on constant speeds above 170 km/h), much better ventilation, much less noise, nice locking system for the flip-up piece, nice sun visor, really comfortable. I rode under the burning hot mid-day sun on 33 degrees Celsious weather, and the helmet felt quite fresh, as it has a special lining to keep the rider cool.
A bit expensive, but money well spent overall!

On another safety note, I went for a fast ride along the twisty roads towards Ancient Epidavros (famous bikers road over here). Good thing I was wearing my Sidi Vertigo Air racing boots, and not the IXS riding boots, as the Sidi have a slider on the tip. I went on a corner really determined, big lean angle, tip of my boot was hanging off the peg and got scraped on the ground. It it wasn't for sliders, it might have caught up on the tarmac.

Top post: If you ride with pride, why doesn't it say BUELL? It's not a HD, it's a BUELL. HD hated Buell and are glad they got rid of the company.

Loki - Don't like HJC?

I've never had my head inside any other helmet, but I don't dislike mine...

HJC CL-SP Type-O

If you have some issues with HJC, what are they? I'm currently thinking about a new helmet...

Is it ok to have a mohawk on your Buell if it looks like this? (My girl and I on the Cover of Southwest Scooter News July 2012)

In keeping with the thread you can also see my Fulmer helmet in the pic. :)

Frozone they arent BAD helmets. The cheek pads are their biggest problems, they just break down way to fast. Other then that they are good first time helmets.

You have to remember with helmets you get what you pay for.

I'm a big fan of those patriotic helmets; especially PHX's.

Might have to look into getting one of those.

1. They are generally heavier than the competition and pretty loud.
2. I went down in a CL-SP and broke my jaw on a side impact.

Noone - that's good to know... I'll keep that in mind when looking for a new one.

Totally understand the "you get what you pay for". I originally bought mine for SCCA racing, and wasnt anywhere near a motorcycle at that time. Now that I'm riding it was nice not to have to fork over that expense.

Ive had a hjc probobly save me some serious damage in a 75 mph fourwheeler wreck! It took a hell of a hit , knocked off a lotta paint ! I walked away with no head injuries ! So i cant knock them but since that i have invested in other helmets and the hjc's quality is just not on par with other, more expencive helmets. You get what you pay for! I think bell has really stepped up there game and are putting out the best bang for the buck! Just my $0.02
