Help, Differences between suspensions

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

so what was the lowest buell called and what years? Did they make a 2003 XBS"L" Low??

If so, whats the difference in the front forks? is it just a shorter fork spring?

I ask because i would like to know if I can lower the front of my bike X1 with 2003 XB forks without sliding the forks up into the triples......

thanks..

It's the springs and the slider tube that are shorter in the SL
And yes there was a 2003 XB9sl

Is there anymore info about the Uly Shock posibly working for the Ss swingarm conversion on the Firebolt/Lightnig model bikes?

The Uly shock has too much travel to work with a Long swingarm conversion on a "short" frame.

A few things to consider:

The spring length or rate does not determine the shock length.

The shock bump stop is the travel limiter.

Different suspension geometry/shock angles will change how the spring rate affects handling

neilrl79....here you go, I too have an '03 XB9SL until last Sunday

S fork on the left looking at the picture, the low fork on the right

on the low fork, the dust seal would be below the top fender screw

the rear of the bike is much higher than the low with the suspension swap, gained about 2" more clearance from ground to exhaust

Thrstmech.... thanks. Great pics, can really see the difference on the forks. I'm planning on doing this but I'm sure I'll buy buying all the pieces. Are the pegs on your bike the ones that came with it? I ask because mine don't have any drop to them.

All lightnings came with the 1" drop pegs. The PO put firebolt pegs on your lightning.

In the pursuit of lowering my 2007 xb9sx city x. If I were to replace my xb9sx city x spring/shock with a scg spring/shock would any other modifications or part swaps be necessary?
Also, would that provide a 1 inch drop or a 2 inch drop?

Sorry to bring this old post up, if not allowed, but it was the first I found in a google search that gave a real insight into the shock world of XB's.
So thanks to all, first of all.
I was simply hoping to confirm some current info.
I was told that the 2009 and 2010 SS ran with an STT suspension and set up. This explained the taller position and thicker triple trees (STT and X I believe - had 47mm)
Anyways, I wanted to lower my bike and the front forks are sorted (CR complete assembly).
But the rear still has me puzzled, as this thread states that the shocks are the same length, but mounted differently.
So...has anyone compared a SS shock from a 08 or older model vs a 09/10 model ?
The spring in my 2010 model is white. Does this have any bearing? Do the 08 and older models of the SS have a different coloured shock that MAY indicate a different set up amongst the years.
Cheers and thanks in advance.
ps: And again, apologies if there is a newer thread with this info.

My 2004 xb12r with stock blue spring,is about 3in taller then my 2005 with a red spring.(It came this way so I dont know what model the red spring shock came from)Heres pictures,

I tried to get the tape in the same place on both. The tall one is the blue spring, and short one is the red spring

I have a 2003 XB9sl which im about to repair the fork seals and remove the .82kg stock springs and put in a 1kg spring. I weight 225

I would trade someone for taller forks.
