I'm on my phone sorry for being short. On my way home the bike died as I was coasting through a low spurred turn to my neighborhood. Pretty much started right back up. Had trouble idling though. Fuel pump doesn't have that high pitched whine anymore. It sort of gurgles and clicks now. Does this sound like fuel pump? No dealer has in stock and I'm supposed to go to the dragon meet next week. Any help appreciated. Also checked battery I think it was around 12.3 off and 13.1 running. I think that's good. I'll post a video of the sound later

Do you have Ecmspy? You can use it to run the fuel pump with the bike off.

I have a good used pump if you want to try to replace it before the trip. Let me know

I ran the diagnostics. I'll post that video later. Don't know how on phone. It ran but doesn't sound right. Unless you give me an email maybe I can email the video. Thanks. May take you up on the spare pump. Really don't want to miss the trip

Sounds like a bad fuel pump [down] Usually when they starting changing sounds its a good indication they need changed. I do find it odd that it fired back up. On most cars when the fuel pump craps out it doesnt restart unless you smack it.

also check the cross reference thread here i believe our bikes use the same fuel pump as some cars and it is readily available at autozone.

Your voltage is right. My pump makes that gurgling noise as well but it runs fine. I think there's a thread here about a wire from the fuel pump rubbing against something or another causing this problem

Can any one verify the Ford mustang pump works? Is it easy to swap. I've never taken the assembly apart

Mine used to have a high pitched whine then suddenly it makes this weird click or gurgling sound

the cross reference thread is in my links when you click on my name. the pump in that one works and I believe if you unbolt the rear shock and let the swing sag a bit it is accessible.

should be walbro 521, I have one of these sitting around because I wanted to test the fit. the filter is different but they work.

snrusnak, here is a thread that talks about the mustang pump part number and validity. hope you get it squared away before the trip brotha!

Common problem when the gas cap isnt on the right way...

It seems like its your fuel pump, good luck with your fix.

:)

It is not to hard to pull the fuel pump. Autozone has a pump that will work. Order O-rings and screen from ASB. Autozone or the others will have the pump. The part number is Airtex E2061. I just replaced mine and it was easy. Get some extra 3/8 fuel line and replace the original line from the pump to the pressure regulator. It is all part of the assembly you will need to pull to replace the fuel pump. To get to the pump jack up the rear of the bike with the lower shock bolt removed. Jack the bike up until the swing arm hangs free and will no longer drop. Make sure the bike is secure. It should be balancing on the jack and the front wheel. Look up the thread about replacing the pump. Be careful when putting it back in the bike. You don't want to cut the o-rings.

haha oh9

(not sarcasm) :D

First of all, to everyone, thanks for all the help. The past week(and longer) has been "hectic". I've been extremely busy with work and personal life and preparing for this trip and other things. I was trying to do some preventative maintenance on my truck by replacing the plugs before this trip and all the boots on under the coils ripped in half so I had to replace all 8 coils(can't get the boots separately). This was an added cost that I hadn't planned on. Also had to order and wait for the parts(came in today). So at the end of that day I was happy that I had the extra vehicle(bike). I rode the bike monday and tuesday to work and tuesday(today) it decided to break down pulling in to my neighborhood(that's what "inspired" this thread). So long story short, the parts for my truck came in today, I got it fixed and it's running great. I bought the v6 mustang fuel pump today while at autozone getting my truck parts(thanks to this forum) and ripped my bike apart after fixing my truck and it APPEARS that I"ll get it finished/fixed tomorrow.

Also on top of this our internet at the house stopped working so I couldn't even research all this crap to fix it. Luckily I have good friends I called and they found answers for me. And used my phone too.

Internet is back up now...

I'm going to start another thread....here:

heyzeus, is the pressure regulator the round black thing in the assembly? So I should replace that vinyl/plasticy flex line with 3/8" fuel line?

I replaced with hose due to my vinyl plasticy thingy having a hole in it so my fuel pump could not build pressure. I recommend replacing to hose. I believe it is 3/8" line.

the pressure regulator is the gold round thing with the white plastic ring around it. if the plastic hose feels hard I would replace it , if not then I would leave it alone

Be careful what hose you use to replace the nylon flex line. Most rubber fuel lines are only internally compatible and the outside will swell and rupture after some time in the tank. Either replace it with a new nylon flex line (best option) or with SAE J30R9 rated hose. This is a great place to get either from: http://www.autoperformanceengineering.com/html/kits.html

That's what I was thinking too eric. I reused the old lines(see the other thread above).

Thanks for everyone's help especially you guys that offered to send me a spare pump.
