Oh so I just bought a xb9s 2003 model. Since purchasing I first changed the oil, then rode it three times approximately 15 miles each time.....I'm in ky so each time has been about 45-50 degrees. Iv let the bike warm up before riding each time. Anyways I was on my way back to the garage to park the bike for the night(10 mins ago) an decided to wheel into the local gas station to show off my new toy and get a pop. And upon turning the bike off, I notices the fan did not kik on like usual, then when I tried to restart it it would not start until after like 10 tries!!! Then once it started I rode two miles to the garage and tryed to put it in neutral and it would not find neutral so i shut it off, opened the garage door and pushed the bike into the garage. Then played with the shifter until i found neutral. The neutral light will not come on nor will the bike recognize that it's in neutral to start the priming of the fuel pump unless I pull the clutch in! Please help this is my new néw baby and I'm scared

It's 50\50 chance the engine is hot enough to make the fan operate at fifty deg. If it took you 10 tries to start your bike the battery got run down during that starting session. charge the battery tonight and see if it acts better mon.

1. These bikes hate 15 minute rides. Take the long way or get used to this or get a different bike.

2. (From 1) Battery probably needs charging. However, that doesn't explain lack of neutral light.

3. Note the Buell manual link at top of this page. Follow it and pick up the 2005 manual on pdf.

4. Fan does not always come on, especially in cooler weather and shorter rides.

5. Note that pulling clutch lever in will allow you to start when not in neutral.

6. Relax, let the battery charge, see what happens tomorrow. It's all part of the learning curve.

Check/Adjust both Clutch adjustments per a Service manual. You need to do the one in the Primary first (Dave DIY vid link below) and follow up with you're clutch cable lever adjustment (Pic below). Nuetral switch probably needs replaced, not uncommon.

- DIY Vids - Primary Clutch is 4th one down

I am in Louisville. Where are you? I may be able to take a look and give you a hand if you are close.

thanks for the offer Mattgti!!! I wouldn't bother you to come help on my bike! Im in Danville, ky btw. Id be up for riding some time however. I charged the battery over night and reinstalled(added maintainer leads while I was at it) today. The bike started right up faster and easier since I've had it (2 weeks). So that fixed battery problem. The neutral light worked as designed the first time started and all thru the ride, worked as designed the second start and thru the continuation of the ride,......Then after stopping at autozone to bs with a freind and employ I tried to start it and of course the started clicked the first try. Then started the second push of the button neutral light was working then. Once I made it to put it up in the garage the neutral light wouldnt come on and would not start without clutch pulled!!!!! bummer!!!! Is there any type of adjustment on neutral switch or anything like that? I have started buying a bunch of parts and what nots for the buell but my manual has yet to come in the mail yet!

As already suggested, check clutch adjustment. But then check the operation and function of your neutral switch. This supplies an input to your ECM, without that signal things don't work so well. Some of the Firebolt's switches are a bit on the underengineered side. In general terms, the Firebolt has some weak areas, like any machine. But don't settle for things as they are. My Firebolt doesn't leak, blow, or burn oil, consistently pulls 55 to 60 mpg, starts within two revs in 10 degree temps, settles right down to a solid idle, and gets driven away cold in twenty degree temps smooth & without complaint. I did 6000 miles touring the dedert southwest last July without the tiniest inconvenience. With the right mods the Firebolt makes the japanese offerings look like junk.

Nuetral switch probably needs replaced, not uncommon.
Also, the service manuals you can download off here or BuellMods.com. May not match you're year model exactly, but things like nuetral switches, clutch adj., etc. remains the same throughout XB's.

03xb where the only year with the kick stand neutral switch (like japanese bikes) most people bye pass it. that will cause the bike to turn over with out starting
