I'm looking for a new rear tire, but I can't decide which to get. I'd like to spend max $160 for the rear tire.

Which tires do you guys use, I don't track the bike, only street driving with occasional ventures through the twisties. I don't mind sacrificing longevity for performance or safety... I saw those Shinkos on Ebay for $100 a pop, are they junk? I'm having a hard time finding reviews on a lot of these tires... Any help is appreciated!

The Shinko's are sort of Yokohama's. When the Yokohama factory for m/c tire was destroyed and Yo. chose not to rebuild, Shinko bought the some of the molds and the rubber recipe etc..
Sportsbike website has a good write up on the shinko tires used by one of their members.
I just put one on my bike the other day (budgetary choice :( ) , but every comment I could find online about the shinko's was overall positive.
I have about 1000km in 2 days on them in sunny and clear, rain, a little snow today, and so far I'm pretty damned impressed! I haven't pushed it really hard yet, but so far it rides really well, no suprises yet. Time will tell.
btw, it's a rear 009.
Hope that helps.
Cheers:D

I just purchased the Shinko 005 Advance Radials for the front and back. I purchesed from BikeBandit and was very happy with the entire transaction. I would say these are a very good all around tire. They may not be the absolute best but for the price there is nothing compairable. Shinko has been around for some time but focuses on racing and has just converted to street tires. But all in all a good buy.

BikeBandit.com has the best prices.

KneeDraggers.com also carries them.

Ryan big question, ive read that pretty much everyone has their favorite brand. i wanted to stay with the stock tires, Diablio T. i found out they are way more expensive the others, only because their OEMs. i got the Diablio Rosso (which is new, and better) tire for $160 at a local shop. you really need to just shop around everyone has sales. i bet you'll find a great deal somewhere. good hunting.

Hey guys, I think I'm going with the Metzeler Sportec 1... Whatever tire I end up with I'll definately write up a review!

BTW: Picking up my bike in the next two days, loan was approved :D

Hey xtremelow, how long were they into racing tires? Do they still do that or did they convert to full street only? As you already know I'll need new tires soon so I'm poking my head around and looking at different things.

Shinko is really big into drag racing they sponsor AMA dragbike Racing teams and it is done on the 003 Stealth street legal tire which goes to show how well the tire is.

Shinko was esablished in 1946 but didn't become big until 1998 when they bought out Yokohama's bike tire mold processes. I have never owned them before just got them since they were cheap and I seen they were into racing so I figured I would give them a shot. So far I have 500 miles on them cruising, hard turns and even some drag racing this past weekend and not once have I been disappointed.
