Hi Everybody I know that there have been other conversations on the Hid Time Delay Mod and I just wanted to get some advice on whether or not this setup will work. I have done the (Dual-On Mod) for when I switch to my high beams. I get my HID kit in this week and would like to order a relay. Here is the diagram I made up. When I start the bike I only have the low beam on anyways so no need to time delay the high beam. i just needed to get some opinions to make sure this will work correctly. Thanks for the input everybody!!!:D

If you have a lightning, you should be using Kajers HID mod. It eliminates the need for a timer and lets you turn on your lights when you want to.

+1 on kajer's method. I'm using it with 2x55w HID lights. My only modification to it is that I'm using 30A auto relays to draw power directly from the battery, so that I don't have to rely on the stock harness to do it.

I'm open to other methods as well I was just really curious if this one looks like it will work? Also does anybody have a link to Kajer's mod i would love to look into it. One last thing...Has anybody had problems running hid off of the factory power supplied by the harness I am just doing dual 35w but they will always be igniting at different times so it shouldn't draw too many amps? Thanks so much guys!

Thanks for the link I would still love to know if my way would work I think that with his i would probably forget to turn on my lights during the day so the timer would be nice I just need someone to double check my drawing.

Here is an updated drawing trying to make everything a little easier. I was hoping I can run the relay off of the low beam power and also the low beam ballast this way I don't have to run a separate power wire back to the battery. Ordered a WolstenTech Relay tonight so I will let you guys know how it goes. Let me know if you guys think this will work?

Realistically, you'd probably be fine. That being said, I'd be real hesitant to draw power for either ballast through the stock wiring (which I believe only has a 10A fuse in place). It doesn't take much extra work to wire the +12 directly to the battery with an appropriate inline fuse. When it comes to my lights, I don't like to f*ck around. Nothing sucks more than being stuck out in the boonies in the dark without a spare fuse to get your lights working again.

Yes I did this mod and it works perfectly I am running on the stock circuit and have had no problems whatsoever yet. I drive with my high beams on so I almost wish that I would have put both high and low beams on a time delay.

sweet buelldude, from what i understand is that you have HID in both slots? 35watt or the 55watts? both are run on factory wiring, and only the low beam is run through the time delay relay? when you click to to high beam, both of your HIDs come on correct?

Sorry don't get a chance to get on as much as I would like to.

-You have HID in both slots? 35watt or the 55watts?

Yes I used 35W 6000K bulbs in eash and they are plenty bright for me.

-both are run on factory wiring, and only the low beam is run through the time delay relay? when you click to to high beam, both of your HIDs come on correct?

Both are run on the factory wiring. When I turn the key to the on position the time delay clocks 45 seconds then turns on the low beam and when I start riding i put in the high beam position which turns on the high beam while still leaving the low beam intact. Feel free to ask anymore questions if you have any and I will answer them the best that I can.

thanks a ton Buelldude, i just got 2 55watt at 4500k, i think im going run a seperate power wire since im running 55 watts, but i already ordered the timer

Buelldude can you show me how your wiring was on the buell? I bought the relay and it doesn't work. I tried using factory circuit and running my own wires. I do t seem to be getting a ground signal from the relay. I even emailed the guy and he sent me another relay but still the same result.

I will try and open it up and get some pictures and draw a new diagram too I thought i had a problem at first as well. I sent you a PM you can call me and I will try to explain it better. The switching is negative side so you will have to go through the ground.

Okay hopefully this will clear everything up I totally re-did the diagram and if you wire it like this everything should work. Please feel free to ask any questions and I will help the best that I can. :D

Good luck I hope that it goes well for you liqrnpoker. Strmvt I've heard of using the dei relay and I'm sure it will work fine if not WolstenTech makes a great relay and it ships to you in about two days. I am very happy with mine and it's really small which is a huge plus especially using dual ballasts.
