I am sure there are threads about how to do the Firebolt front fairing lowering mod, but in a search I couldn't find it. Can anyone post a link? Thanks!!!:)[up]

No, sir, I'm talking about dropping the whole fairing down about an inch (all that would still allow clearance of the front brake fluid reservoir in the handlebar area, and clearance of the front fender upon full compression of the forks).

In other words - for example - make adapter bracket pieces that would go where the four front fairing bracket bolts on to the triple tree area, such pieces that would enable holes for the bolts about an inch higher, so that attaching through these new bolt holes would effectively drop the whole entire front fairing assembly - bracket and all - about an inch. I would do two inches if clearances would allow for it.

You'd pretty much just have to make a custom bracket. I would also extend it out slightly, but that's just me.

Thank you, Wolfo, that idea about extending it out a bit and lowering it...trying to envision that...that just might look sweet. Looking at it I figured I could fab some custom brackets, but was just wondering if anyone had already done this and posted the procedure instead if me trying to reinvent the mousetrap from scratch. Again, any body heard of anyone doing such a mod? Any links to threads? Thanks again. Of course there is turboraven's latest build, similar concept, but he didn't lower a stock front fairing...

Thank you, Shaggy! Looks like this is what I had in mind and the way to go. Will contact Kevin and go from there. I am going to see if while he fabs a set to include a 1" drop with a 1" forward set. Will report here. Thanks again!

Addendum - future mods include upgrading to the 1125-type front brake caliper from ASB, which includes replacing the master cylinder at the same time, so planning on the radial master cylinder mod at that time, so this fairing mod will also accommodate that - as well as giving the look I am going for. Any more input is welcomed. Thanks again.

i wouldnt mind a 1" drop as well. was just talking this with a mate over hte weekend. not keen to go 1" forward though.

let us know how you go.

OK, I have e-mailed Kevin. Told him I could go with a minimum drop of 1", up to 2" or more if the suspension travel will still allow clearance between the fender and fairing, and moving the fairing forward a minimum of 1" or as much as 2" if he thought it would still look good. Told him there may be other interest on the forum in doing this. Will update later. Any more input is welcomed.

Be careful and make sure that the wiring will go that far. I had trouble with just what I did.....

Roger that. A preliminary look at the wiring early on had me wondering about that. Maybe I should take the fairing mounting harware off, and with the fairing floating loose, see how much slack there is in the wiring. Maybe if need be there is a wiring harness tie-down that can be done in a different way to provide a bit more slack. Thank you for the heads up.

Good news! Kevin replied to my e-mail and said he is proceeding with the project. I will report with updates.

Update: Just talked to Kevin and we are proceeding with the project. He said the cost should be in the $100 range, but it is understood we will know for sure as he proceeds through the fabrication and nears completion of the project. We are going with a 2" drop with a 2" forward extension. Should look SWEET.

Anybody know how to Photoshop this stock photo to dipict how this mod will look when completed?

Below is an "analog PhotoShop" image dipicting the front fairing lowered 2" and set forward 2"

I dig it. A lot. What do you think?

cool, I'd like to see close ups when you start putting it together, the link provided shows some pretty good pics there, how different from that will your's be? have looked into the nissin radial front master cylinder set up for my build, looks like one from either an R6, R1, and GXSR's would work also

Thank you. I intend to update this thread throughout the entire process, from having the brackets fabricated to installing the brackets, and will include photos including close ups.

The difference in the brakets Kevin made as shown in the above link, and the brackets he is making for me, is the brackets he made as shown in the above link implemented a 1" forward extension only of the front fairing. The bracket set Kevin is making for me will include a 2" forward extension, but also implement a 2" drop.

My main goal in this mod is to lower the front fairing, but I am including a forward extension as well because I intend to go to the Brembo radial front master cyclinder set up when I upgrade to the ZTL2 8-piston front brake caliper.

Please note I also plan on going to the Zero Gravity Double Bubble windscreen. This will extend the side profile of the top of the fairing upward somewhat.

UPDATE: Kevin (Drummer Racing) asked if I wanted to give him my cell #, he will send me pics of the project proceeding.

Yes sir, I will post pics as quickly as I can once Kevin provides them.

UPDATE: Kevin said the only "iffy" part may be the full 2" drop. His concern is if the handlebars may have interference with the top part of the fairing. He will know as be proceeds. I told him I wanted the forward extension to be proportionate to the drop. Example: if Kevin ends up going with a drop of 1.5 inch I would want the forward extension to also be 1.5 inch. The 2" drop is not yet out of the question. We will know as we go forward.
