How much can I talk this guy down?

Buellxb Forum

Help Support Buellxb Forum:

I think your price target is reasonable for a buell, but dont think you will be able to talk him down that much. Might be able to get to $7k but looking at the listing that might be a struggle. All you can do is try. If you are looking at us for things to say is wrong with it good luck. That thing looks spotless. Cant tell in pics but tires and brakes are the only items that might be worn out. Maybe look into pricing of bikes in a similar category, year, and mileage. I really dont think the seller will care though. If you try that route I bet he tells you to go buy whatever deal you found.

I find his price on the high side. Screw his accessories that doesnt improve the value. Its clean, its a Buell 09 good year. I got my 08 firebolt 8,002 miles $5500. That was a dealer as well. Year newer id say $6000 is fair. Fact is hes asking for the same kinda money that these bikes were going for brand new when they were shut down.

I dont think he will get close to his asking price. He will probably just end up keeping it.

Um... what? Since when does over $1,000 worth of accessories not add value?

With that being said, he's a little high on his price. But If it were by my bike, in that condition with those accessories, I don't think I'd let it go for 6,000. If you want to negotiate on price, get the bike without the bags. All you can do is contact the guy. Come in with a low number, so what if he says no? Start at 5 and see what he comes back with.

Always find it interesting how Buell owners degrade the value of their own bikes by bashing prices. I totally support telling people what to look for before buying, but seems like both forums tend to drive prices lower.

I got a fire sale price on a tv on Black Friday, but that doesn't mean that same item is only worth that firesale price now if someone were to buy one.

This bike looks perfect. Negotiate, but I'd say you found a bike out of your price range.

I wouldn't start too low though... If someone offered $5k for something I'm selling for 50% more than that. I would be offended and not take him seriously.
I'm sure he started a little high for some haggle room, but bottom line is, how much is it worth to YOU?

I would agree with this statement.

Not that I like the idea of degrading my bike's value, but the fact is they are not selling for that much money. Personally, even though that's a great bike, I wouldn't pay over $5k for it. I got my 2005 xb9r with less than 7000 miles on it, new tires, new battery, and a helmet for $2,500. Wasn't in as good of shape but was in good shape. In the end, all that matters is what it's worth to you.

This is more or less what meant. You dont have to pay for all the extra crap.

I always find it interesting when Buell owners think their bike has something special about it that justifies a high value. Fact: the market, the buyers dont give a crap about sentimental value. People are only willing to pay so much. And $7500 is high.

Yeah, that does seem kind of high. So you might have a shot, at a lower price if you wait a couple of weeks. Maybe no one will bite. You have to realize this is riding season around here, So prices are not going to move as much when it's winter. To let you know, I bought a XB9SX Lighting with 2100 miles on it from Madison for $4500 dollars this last January. (Private owner, and yes I know it's a 9...)

Good Luck

Um... what? Since when does over $1,000 worth of accessories not add value?

When the accessories added arent what the buyer wants... I can add thousands of dollars in upgrades/ accessories to a bike, i.e. a loud exhaust, lowering brackets, spoked wheels, etc... it doesnt add value to me because I would be happier with stock exhaust, stock height, and stock wheels... in this case it would cost me more to make it the way I want it. In this case, I tend to agree... everything he has extra isnt exactly a change from stock...it is extra. if you dont want it, sell it after you buy it.

too bad you're not here on the east coast. some good buys around here on 08-09 Ulys. when you take into consideration what you will be happy with, bikes' condition, attitude of seller and your finances...it is only a good deal if it is within your budget.

In Feb I bought my 2007 Firebolt XB9R 3000 Miles on her for $3000... But I did buy her from a good friend of mine. If I was going to sell her now...today with 6000 Miles. I'd ask $3800-$4200

Here is a 2008 25th Anniversary Uly here in FL for sale... 5000 Miles... $6000 asking price. http://tampa.craigslist.org/hil/mcy/3769920999.html

I would offer guy $6000... cash bam... let him think about it... They always call when the offer is reasonable. The guy asking $6000 for the Anniversary Uly... If it was nice as shown... I'd offer that guy $5400-5800. If rockers/fan were oil saturated, brakes due, tires due... then I have to consider I'm buying all those repairs. It the people who don't consider tire wear... who poop themselves at tireshop.

Last bike I sold... I made money on... Had 2 brand new tires, recent brakes, oil change.

Oh yea... just got my brand new Pirelli Diablo front tire for $97 Shipped.

My $.02 the 09-10 bikes always bring good money. Not that a lot changed they are just newer I guess and everyone I've seen for sale is high. Uly's also bring bigger bucks. I see accessories more as a selling point than adding value .

Taking everything into concideration I'd say the bike is worth $6250ish. I'd say more if there were less miles if you really like this bike and all the add ons? $6500 but I wouldn't pay over that.

This guy may not want to sell , might just be throwing out a hell Mary . I've thought about putting mine up for $6500 just to see if I could get it. It would be lovely to get that but I know it's a high number. But he'll I don't really want to sell it either. I just would , everything's for sale for the right price.

When the accessories added arent what the buyer wants.

I still disagree. While it may not be a value-add for someone that doesn't like the accessories/mods it doesn't lower the cost of the bike. It would be like finding a $50,000 built-to-the-hilt Mustang and saying the blower, engine work, drive line mods, roll cage, and racing tires don't add value to the car because you are looking for a stock Mustang.

Saying the bike is worth less money because you don't like the mods or accessories doesn't make sense if there are buyers that are looking for a Uly with those accessories. It's especially true when the modifications are easily undone and have an intrinsic value by itself. If you don't like the mods you can always ask what his/her price is without them. If they are willing to do the legwork to sell the items by themselves that gives you some negotiating room.

Now it's a different story when they do something like chopping a Buell up and turning it into a bobber. If there is nobody out there that's looking to buy a Buell Bobber then the $20k worth of parts, time, and material you expended add absolutely zero value.
