2010 12Ss with less than 4000kms so far;
-battery strap broke, dealer broke new one trying to install. zip-tied battery in and gave me a third strap. Ill leave the zip-ties i guess. warranty.
-horn bracket cracked. horn rattled so bad i could hear it over my special ops!. warranty. bug screen screws overtightened by dealer (can see indents from screws)
-seat release cable came out. couldn't open my seat. was lucky to open without any damage and re-install cable and zip-tie into place. would have been warranty but better if i do that kind of stuff im sure.
over all just piddly stuff.

It`s seems that alot of the broken stuff was user error. If you weed out what was broke because the owner srcewed with the bike, then there isn`t too much that goes breaks on it`s own.

2004 XB12s bought June of last year with 11000km, now with 18000km.
This is my first and only bike!

Primary cover cracked(previous owner lowsided and hide it with new painting)

Shift linkage damaged(from previous owner)

Turn signal relay housing cracked(from previous owner)

Horn bracket cracked(from previous owner)

Front rotor warped(from previous owner)and bought the 6mm EBR rotor:D

Connector '77' melted

Burned Stator(replaced Stator and regulator)

Wheel bearings damaged, front and rear

After all most of the damage was by bad usage!!

I just had the horn bracket snap right off on me. I couldn't figure out why I was getting rattling till I went to use the horn once. Ended up just fabricating a new one out of a single piece of aluminium.

- #8 Exhaust Nut - DA0500.12FZ
- #13 Exhaust Strap Front - S0116.02A8

so far that's it...

although i have had 90% of the bike replaced under insurance after getting T-boned.

think only things that are still from original is the rims, forks, seat, tail light..

oh and the pillion pegs as i didn't have the on at the time of the accident.

04 xb12r Genral maintnance items-----> plugs, air filter, oil, and tires. So far nothing has "broken" but I think im getting close to a clutch & cable replacement @ 11500 miles.

Nothing has broken. The only things that i've done to my bike are maintenance items like freak1280 was talking about.

mine is still breaking the speed limit.ive tried different fixes but nothing seems to help.[confused]

Not a thing yet. Me not working on it or trying to do mods and knowing my limits probably helps.

Is it me, or does it seem like the newer XB's have more issues than the older ones?

It looks that way to me too
And now my update will make it seem even more true

I was at 13k on the first page with my '03, I'm now at 18k and still no failures that couldn't be attributed to others (like an SUV lol)

12k (ish) miles... My damn shifter pivot bolt fell off somewhere on my last ride. (close to home thankfully)

btw 05 xb9sx 12,000 miles. bought used in 08

XB9SX, 2005, 2 years now my own, total 25kkm

What broke so far
clutch cable 2x (1st time repaired, 2nd time replaced with a HydroClutch)
Front wheel bearings 1x (replaced my selfe as the defect appeared after they have been replaced in the shop)
short wire (to starter relay) causing a dead discharged battery... and consequently a sum of problems (I will post separately)

what I fucked up myself

Threads at primary clutch cover (redone with inserts)
wires towards the head light rubbing short after replacing a bulb (redone)

Compared with the Italian Diva I have the Buell is a marvelous reliable piece of engineering... I still can't believe it's US-made :)

'07 XB12S, bought used in Oct 2009 with 10 000 km on the clock:
When bought: Worn wire insulation in two places under the seat causing some fuses to blow
14 000km: Stator died
19 000km: Warped front rotor (replaced both rotors with Brakings this winter :)
