Well I'm glad you worry about keeping your bike legal. But in all honesty If a cop is pulling you over because your mirror is small, or your turn signals aren't far enough apart then its seems more of a matter of him wanting to pull you over to check your license or for a sobriety test or something.

I find it hard to believe any competent cop will write tickets over the mods you mentioned.

As far as fix it tickets go, if your offered a month to fix something without a fine then me risking my headlights is completely ok in my book. I can swap out bulbs in about 30 minutes and not loose any money over it.

It's not that I worry about being legal. I'd just rather spend less time being pulled over or in court over accessories on my bike, and spend more time riding! :D

many years ago I was going to buy this really cool Tombstone tail light with a Blue dot insert for my chopper project, and I had old time biker friend that talked me out of it. This is a guy who was a patch holder and rode for many years with a local 1% club,

He gave me some really good advice based on many years of intense police harassment, tickets and intimidation.
he told me dont waste your money on illegal and cheesy add ons. Spend it on a good drive chain, the truth is Police are just looking to pull you over, by putting anything on there that GIVES them a reason to pull you over is asking for trouble, You can build a nice bike within the letters of the law and still be cool. He said, Police are just going to make something up anyway, Why give them a reason? If you are 100% illegal then you at least have a chance.

The thing was,,,,,,back in those days,,,,you could rack up a lot of tickets and or points on your license and it was a life changing experience for someone like him if he couldnt ride because of a suspended license. (those kinda clubs tend to frown on members who cant ride)

So, things are much different today,,,,,,,,, but I always felt what he had to say was really valid, and while I dont follow the law exactly, I do drive and ride too fast, my exhaust is too loud, and im sure theres other things,,

He did have a good point back then and its still true today. You guys can make your own decisions, but life is much easier if you at least LOOK like you are trying to conform to the law, and things like non DOT lights you can at least make a case of trying to increase visibility and safety, Doesnt work if you are blinding oncoming traffic. But i think you can see my point.

Not sure about your jurisdiction, but you better believe it where I live. [sad]
In fact, springtime is notorious for 'motorcycle safety weeks' where cops (competent or not) focus right in on DOT regulated things like lights, mirrors, helmets, tires etc.

I just did the headlight mod on my lunch break.... piece of cake. Maybe this will help keep Johnny Law off my ass for a little while....

Im glad I dont live where you guys live
Don't feel too bad for me.
I live in a place with healthcare for all, the freedom to marry whoever I want, and incredible riding roads through the Rocky Mountains! :p ;) :D

In virginia if you take the motorcycle class they actually tell you to always ride with your high beams on I do just for the reason I dont want to ever be stopped
