Mount the pipe and reset TPS. Then take a good Learn-in ride - Keeping RPM's from 2500-3500, going a 40-60mph for 2-3 mins. This will allow the ECM to "learn" a new AFV (Adaptive Fuel Value).

ECM spy and tps reset do not apply to the 08 and up bikes. You should be able to get away with mounting the Jardine and then taking the bike on a 15-30 min learn in ride as stated above keeping rpm around 3000. I did this on my 09 with no ill affects.

But you can do a TPS Reset on the new bikes. I noticed a difference with the dead spot in my throttle after doing it.

Resetting the TPS on 08+ Buells
Resetting the TPS on 08+ Buells does not require external Software to perform a TPS reset, but
DirectLink can be used to confirm that it is set correctly. The 08+ Buells are equipped with Idle
Air Control logic, and the idle air and speed is under ECM control. The fully closed butterfly
position is set by a stop that is cast into the throttle body, and there is no external throttle position
stop screw.
To reset an 08+ Buell, do the following:
1. Turn on the key.
2. Set the kill switch to the run position.
3. Don’t start the engine. Rotate the throttle from fully closed (gently forced closed) to fully
open (gently held open), and then back again to closed (gently forced closed).
4. Repeat 3 times. Hold each position (fully open, fully closed) for 1 full second.
5. Turn the key off and on.
6. If you connect to Directlink, a fully closed throttle should indicate 3.7 to 4.2 degrees. If it
doesn’t, repeat the above steps.

Would the 08+ ecu adjust for a K&N and open air box + the Jardine, or is a remap required ?

noob here.man you guys just saved me a headache with the tps reset.i have a 2009 xb9xs and have a jardine gp1 on the way.i guess the only question i have is if i reset the tps with the new exhaust will the reset work again if i buy and install the k+n filter later.thanks!!!!

It might help to redo the TPS reset with the K&N, but just so you know - when doing an exhaust AND intake mod on an '08+ later ECMs is pushing the "learning" ability of the ECM. It'll run but if you were to check air/fuel ratio, it'll be on the lean side unless you remap - which is bad long-term for the engine.

thanks.i will stick with just the jardine for now until the funds come up for everything else.so do you think if i stuck with just the exhaust i will be o.k. for commuting and weekend riding?

wanta6thgear, check out this link:

Cheap & Easy Tunning on my 08 XB12R

it is very inexpensive (under $60) and it has been working great for me. If anything, I would say that I am running a little on the rich side right now and I am less than 1/2 way on the total adjustment. Gave me a lot more torque & HP! Just an idea if you don't want to wait on the rest of your mods.

hello,
i have an 09 xb12ss with the Jardine exhaust and i just ordered the erick buell race ecm for the jardine exhaust and i was wondering if the TPS reset will work on this aftermarket ecm? any info would help id rather do all mods to my bike with out having to take it to the dealer.

A TPS reset on the EBR ECM's has been shown to melt the handlebars. The only way to avoid this is to keep the engine above 5000 RPM at all times. That's why they call it a "race" ECM: you have to go really fast to keep your bike from grenading.

a helmet, gloves, decent jacket, protective pants & shoes and a license.

that's all you need to have fun ;)
