maybebuell,

what i don't understand is why are your always talking hp?
harley's or any other low-reving engine doesn't have any use for hp. once the hp's start to kick in, your almost at redline.

twin's are built for torque...pure g's! and that's what makes them fun to ride.

that is also why it takes skill to drag a twin, you need to control the pull and perform excellently timed & short shifts.

Lefox i agree 100% about the torque more tq down low more fun in the street not a better feeling when riding just to crack the gas and get tire spin....think both metric and buells when drag racing both get to shift point pretty quick....question never draged raced a v at the track only metric ...will a buell get into 5th before crossing the finish 1/4 mile....not a trick question lol .. stock metrics i draged at track id cross finish in 4th gear....something a dyno tuner told me when tuning my vtwins over the years (John Golden) one of the best around ...you can gain hp and not gain tq mater of fact you can lose torque trying to gain hp.....but evey time you gain tq you gain hp at that rpm...what does it all mean lol

maybebuell you seem to know a lot about bikes [up]. Sounds like you've had some really great experiences with them as well. That's awesome.

I've never raced or been on the track with any of my bikes, but who knows maybe someday I'll be posting my first track day experience.

that's true, torque gain is also hp gain, but compared...the % of torque is higher than the hp you gain.

only...one year during the summer went to track about 7 times grudge night mostly street bikes... had a ball in the mid 80s ,,and the one thing i noticed.. all the bikes getting the best times where the ones kept stock..others had pipes carb ...talking same models bike....i had pipe and jet change 11.2 time... this old times on the same bike stock would beat me every time snd seen it time and time again with other bikesstreet bikes .....well he may not of been that old i was just young lol......do rollons against my friends v65 magnia in a few different gears after i did pipe jets ect...ran stronger stock....and twenty years of rollon fun with the harleys,,, and any so called race pipe thats wide open your down big power tq in tthe street....ill shup up for a while..need weather to change and start riding

thanks kole so im thinking buell and metric under racing conditions the shift points are close buell is not getting to its shift points any faster then a metric ..street riding both bikes side by side in the same gear same speed roll it on thats where the torque come in and the bull will likely pull most metrics...but those metrics boy cheat those bastarts...they pull up next to you on the highway doing 80 in third gear wound up tight and think they have useable power.. been on both ends...yes getting the biggest bang in the shortest rpm range is fun ....you know the old saying if your going to pull a tree stump out of the ground use a harley now thats power

My friend and I did a 5th gear pull race one night on the freeway. He was on his Ninja 650R. I immediately got 2 bike lengths on him, then he walked by [sad] I guess it was because he wasn't in his tall gear like I was so his ratio wasn't 1.1, but I was still upset. Maybe my torques took a day off.

I bought my BuellXB12 becuase it was different. And loved the way it handled. If total speed is what you are after. The Buell is not for you.I have a Hiyabusa thats a few years old now. And it's more then I can handle. But it's no fun on Angeles Crest or Mulholand. You need to look at a different bike.

i dont know about the rest of you but everytime I show up on my stock '09 Buell I gather a crowd that walk right past even the craziest looking jap bikes. must be my good looks.

i was one who never was interested in wild metric or harley choppers... they never did anything for me ..was always into a stock machine ..or stock with motor work

So, here's a true story about owning the corners...and it's all to do with talent, not the bike...
Ever heard of James Whitham? Check him out on You Tube. I know James personally..and his buddy, a guy called Carl Fogarty (5 times World Superbike Champion). James raced World Superbikes until around 2001.
When James was 18, he raced a 125cc two stroke in England. His mates all laughed at him, until he challenged a real hero on a Honda 900 Fireblade to a 5 lap race on a racetrack in England. The street rider on the Fireblade accepted the challenge.
James won. He pissed all over the 'blade in the corners.
I've ridden for over 20 years. Put me against a real rider on, say, an Aprilia 250 street bike, and I'd look like a real idiot. He would walk all over me. It's about talent, and power to weight, not raw power. Just my humble opinion....

canadaxb thats the way it alway was your right...bike dont make the man...the man makes the bike....Dave balls only gets you through a few turns before you wipe out and die
