i wonder how much i can wromp on this bike before it keels over. . . the way i was riding today had me questioning the durability of this bike . . . redlining hauling ass everywhere and i mean from stop light to stop light

just wondering

More frequent oil changes and plan on clutches, tires, lube, oh and a backup fund for repairs and if you can afford all that on a whim than who gives a rats ass.

Ride her like your prom date but harder.

thats the only real fear i've ever had on a bike, weather it's breaking a belt, or chain. just being stranded somewhere and not being able to get home easily

Odin, thats providing when the belt snaps that it dosen't hit you in the leg or ankle, seen the aftermath, many stiches.

I barely have 5300 miles on my 03 XB9 and am on my 3rd belt. I've gotten pretty discouraged with buying new belts so I quit romping on it lately. You'd think a bike would be built to take a little bit of abuse. Definately thinking about chain conversion or at least 05 or newer sprocket/belt upgrade since that was supposedly a superior design to the 03's and 04's.

Rhyno-never thought of that..but again, heres hoping that doesn't happen as well

bdugal,i also have a 03 ,xb9r,8000 miles and on the stock belt, maybe your belt in not lined up straight? i beat the hell out of my bike with no issues.maybe just lucky.chain convrsion is not a bad idea though, pricey, but still a good idea.much more range with your final drive ratio.let us know if you switch.

Bdugal have you tried the

Free Spirits Modified Belt Tensioner!
2018_20081216070317_L.jpg

Saves Belts, Gearbox output bearings, you can push the bike in neutral a damn site easier and the gearbox is a lot smoother with less CLUNK - essential mod for an XB
(Lordfenwick's Recomendation)
I'm gonna have to pick one up soon. Very logical design and consept.

not sure why belt tensioner is even needed...big twins dont use them running more torque and horse power on a heavy bike... belts last 50.to 100.000 miles..hole shots ect...talking moded twin or after market motors also
