But this is coming to a state near you:

New California Exhaust Law

They are out to quiet us down, no question. If you aren't an AMA member yet, you should consider it - the mag is worth it and they do work on protecting our rights and privileges.

I'm glad to live in the most dangerous city in the US, Saint Louis cops don't give a **** about motorcycle exhaust, cause that would require them to get out of their cars. Not going to happen.

this is true.. and typically i find that cops dont really do **** unless you tempt them... with speeding or being retarded... i guess we can all hope.

well good thing the dont make buells anymore so you guys out there on buells dont got to worry about it

Doesn't surprise me. On the plus side, it's doubtful I'll own a bike made after 2013 until at least 2020, so it's nothing I have to worry about any time soon.

To be honest I love bikes, and I love the noise Vtwins and I4s make, but a lot of people on bikes make me want to hate motorcyclists as well so I don't blame the general public for wanting to quiet us down. I even think my own bike is a little too loud with the hawk on it and have been planning on making some of those home-made exhaust silencers from the Mcmaster-carr parts that someone on here made.

As usual, a few ******** ruin it for everyone. I've read that that the law won't even be based around a sound test or anything sensible like that. They'll just look for the stamp on the exhaust that says it met the federal requirements rather than just ticketing people with obscenely loud bikes. There will be NO aftermarket exhaust whatsoever. On a funny note, when you think about it, this law will dissuade some new buyers from purchasing newer cleaner bikes like the government wants us to do. As we all know, motorcyclists like customizing their bikes and a lot of us would prefer to ride something a few years older with a nice sounding pipe and other cool pieces. I guess no one ever accused our politicians of using common sense. On the other hand, I'm a motorcyclist and even I get pissed when a guy rolls by my house or business and I have to literally stop what I'm doing to wait until he passes because he thinks his pipes make him a badass. We can only hope they'll add a little common sense to the law.

Well said! [up]
