Hey everybody! Id like to start a thread dedicated to my first Buell, a 2009 XB12Scg in Hero Blue.
I bought her on 7/8/13 with roughly 1,200 miles on her, all stock. I always said the only way I would buy an XB, was if it came factory black engine casings, low miles, and unmolested. Well, I found this about a half an hour away from me, and contacted the previous owner immediately. I had to wait about 2 weeks from that date until I could pick her up, but I have been all smiles since! My previous bike was a 2005 Yamaha R6, I loved that bike (or I thought I did), but Raelynn doesnt hold a candle to Layla. I just cant stop admiring the beauty of the XB12S, and the fun factor is out of this world. I love the power of it, the comfort, and the pure experience of it!
This thread will be dedicated to her, all future plans, picture, etc... Please feel free to enjoy and post as well!
Here is the picture from the Craigslist ad, I was in love as soon as I opened it!
The detail I gave her, love a clean bike!
Went ahead and did my first mod..... dual high beams!
After reading through the threads, I knew the first mod I was going to do was the breather reroute/ catchan. I originally mounted the components on the brace bar on the transmission side of the bike, but the two problems occured: 1) the catch can was starting to slowly melt from the heat coming off of the transmission case, it laid against the casing. And 2) the brass fittings scratched up the brace bar a bit, so I had to touch it up the best I could.
I relocated the components by running zip-ties around the wiring just under the black panel underneath the air scoop. Looks much better and allows the catch can to float, and its actually easier to get it off to drain.
I also went ahead and did the open airbox DIY mod..... I ran it for a few days, but it didnt go as planned, and I didnt like how I had to secure the top of the airbox. I also felt like it ran too lean. After searching the internet and trying to find a replacement baseplate and box top, I had to contact HD for a replacement.... cost me $250 total for the new baseplate and top. While I was there, I also picked up a new shift shaft seal. The one on there was very slowly weeping oil. The new seal is MUCH better than the one I took off.
Here are some random pictures of Layla..... the second one is my absolute favorite, for now!
My planned mods list consists of (not in any specific order):
Open Airbox DIY - completed, reverted back to stock
Breather reroute and catch can - completed
Jardine RT-1 carbon fiber + EBR race ECM
K&N Air filter
Suspension setup - completed
Right side air scoop
Dual high beam mod - completed
ASV shorty levers
Bar end mirrors
XB Lights integrated taillight
Tank buckle guard
5-0Dro full sliders set
Corbin Gunfighter seat
Stay tuned, post your thoughts and opinions, and enjoy! Ride safe everybody!
