So i was wondering if LED plug and play replacement headlamp bulbs are much of an improvement over the standard bulbs and worth buying or not? I know HID`s may be better but i dont want to go that route. Thanks chaps! :)

Tone, I just tried a cheap pair of H3 led bulbs from ebay, they cost less than $10 for the pair, but the sucked! looked cool but hardly put out any light. I know they make some better ones that have a fan attached to them but I would have to cut open the rubber boots on my XBR to get them to fit, I think someone on the forum did that before, I didn't want to do that. I just installed a set of Hella H3 55watt yellow star instead, nice and bright and have a slight yellow tint to them, about $20 a pair, I like them better than the bright white if you are riding around dusk or dawn also work good if its a little foggy, hope that helps, I don't think they make black ones, LOL!

I still prefer HID's over LED, here's the output from my bike, I believe this is both low and high. Also note my friends Speed Triple is to the right of me, compare the halogen light...

AZmidget91, what setup are you using? part number?

Thanks chaps! 248 i know what you mean about the cheap crap out there it must be hard to find the good ones 1st time round, cruiser customs sell some about $50 each i think so they should be good? Hey yeah man black bulbs....Mmmm i wonder!! ha ha ha and AZ thats impressive light power you have there and they are obviously the way to go but i was wondering if good LED`s even came close to that? i just dont want to fit all that stuff involved with HID`s if the simpler? LED`s are good enough? Was looking at these maybe? $_12 (11).JPG $_12 (10).JPG

Buell248,I purchased a rather expensive set of led's which I spoke of in another thread if I remember correctly. Anyways, they are to long and crash into all the wiring and will not work, not only were they to long I ran a test, left one hid in and compared to the poorly installed but functioning led by placing my hand over each light....what a joke the led's were compared to my cheap hid's. It's ur money man......I now have a $65 set of Led's sitting in a box in my shop

Thanks wicked i think i may well knock this idea on the head then and stick with standard bulbs until maybe one day fitting HID`s but Buell248 has started me thinking about looking for black bulbs now! ha ha ha As always thanks for your input chaps!

Yes Wicked I agree, the led bulbs suck no matter if you pay $10 or $50, I think Tone was just looking for a quick plug n play bulb, the HID setup that AZ listed are only $36...that seems to be the way to go.

Hid's are super cheap on eBay tone, I think mine were like $30 shipped to the door for both sides for my bolt (two lights, two mini ballasts) they are absolutely amazing over stock, it's like night and day.....way safer at night and when it's dark on the way in to work in the morn while the idiots in their cages apply makeup, text, watch porn, whatever they do in their cars. Ask me how I know people watch porn in their cars....lol never mind don't ask...lol

Yeah man, mine just flood two full lanes completely across. The feeling you get from the safety factor alone is immeasurable. You will be seen and that is the key to staying alive out there man.

Ha ha ha i wont ask!! lol They do sound really good the HID`s its just me wanting the lazy way out i guess and i know its not much stuff to fit its just i have the old school mentality where you throw away as many parts of the bike as you can get away with (mirrors, indicators, brackets etc) you dont add stuff keep it simple just like me! ha ha ha

Not sure if you made a decision or not. I've used the led headlight bulbs (version w/ fan) they are terrible for actually seeing and blind oncoming traffic at night. Light is not focused well and scatters in all the wrong places. They are great for being seen during the day however. I can't really recommend re-based HIDs either though for the same reasons. The best improvement is through higher voltage to the bulb through more efficient wiring harness and quality halogen bulbs, or a complete HID projector retrofit. The problem with the latter is cost and space constraints in the factory housings.

Thanks for the input Flatout, yeah i did try some and i agree with what you said! Mate a candle would show up the road better! lol i am going to wire them up with some crocodile clips and use them as an emergency roadside repair light, just clip straight onto the battery and when not in use store it under the seat! sorted! Will stick with OEM bulbs for now!
