Hard to tell from the pic/lighting but #4 looks like there is some oil on the top of the rocker cover. If that is the case, we’ll id do it regardless, but replace the grommets and pcv while your there doing the rocker.

You are right there and you will slap yourself if you have to pull it all apart to do rocker box. I would do box and cover at one time and be done with it. But that is me you do what you like.

Have a source for the grommets and pcv?

Thanks,

Warner

PS - Where can I source JUST the rocker box gaskets? I don't want to buy a whole kit after paying $50 (including shipping) for a bag of 5 james rocker cover gaskets...

got mine from HD. PCV - 17607-00Y. Grommets 17606-00YA.

IF you want JUST rocker gasket, HD # 17362-07B. BUT i would go with JAMES gasket SET. Worth it, well for me. I eneded up changing out the intake seals on my TB too just for safe measure as they are also known to leak/go bad around your milage. Mine were leaking at 5K on mine.

Thanks for the Grommet and PCV part numbers. 2 of each, correct? Do you have a part number for the correct James rocker gasket kit? I'll return the 5ea rocker cover gaskets to Summitt and get the kit....

Thanks again everyone for your help on this!

Part # for the kit; http://www.ebay.com/itm/331687015164?rmvSB=true

As far as the qty, if you go to the HD dealer link i sent you, they sell the PCV valves individually & as a set. so either or there. The Grommets i bought locally and sold as each. Double check but i didnt see the grommet on the HD link i sent. If you go to a dealer, they will tell you if sold as pair or single.

Got started on the project today. Following the instructions on this site, I got all the way to the part where you loosen the belt, and found that I don't have the giant allen wrench size requires for that (what the hell size IS that thing, anyway?).

The only real snag I ran into was removing the pulley cover. Those bolts were basially WELDED in. Whatever that white **** they put on the threads is unbelievable. I got 2 of the 3 bolts out, but manged to strip out 2 torx tools and most of the shape of the torx pattern in the 3rd bolt, too. Man, I tried EVERYTHING....heating the bolt, cutting a slot into it for a flat blade screwdriver.....nothing worked. I finally had to cut a slot on the pulley cover and pull it off that way. Then I was able to use a vice grips and get the bolt out. Man...what a bitch! I spent over an hour just on that bolt trying to minimize the damage. Oh well. If I decide to replace the pulley cover, it looks like they are about $30. Where is the best place to get hardware for this bike? I need that bolt, and also was missing one from the red airbox cover as well. Making progress. I need to source that giant allen wrench before going any further. I'd also like to find the part number of the rocker gasket kit...the James one, and order that.

I also plan on refinishing the muffler when I pull it off....it's fairly rusty. I'd REALLY like to get a different muffler......Drummer or Jardine (or similar) but man are they pricey! The hawk ones aren't too expensive, but I've heard enough comments about poor quality to avoid those I think. I'd like the bike to sound more like a Harley.
