First, you can switch back and forth.
Second, you can mix and match but, why would you want to.
Third, if your out somewhere and can only get conventional oil but, you have synthetic oil in the bike, no problem but, now you will have to change the oil sooner because, conventional oil does not hold up as well as synthetic does.
Forth, make sure, absolutely sure, that you use a good oil filter.

Necropost.

I was just at the HD dealership in Blaine, Minnesota. I just purchased a 2003 XB9R and was looking to buy some oil for it. The parts clerk asked me if I was running conventional or synthetic. I indicated that I did not know what PO was running and that I would need to reach out to him to confirm. Parts clerk then indicated that you can run conventional and then move on to synthetic but that you can't go from synthetic back to conventional. Anyone care to chime in on this?

has the finger-print of either our beloved CHICAGO or the recently departed FabioDriven all over it. reply @ your own peril.

Hey, guys. It was a legitimate question in response to something I was informed on here in the Minneapolis area. No idea about CHICAGO or who FabioDriven is.

Welcome aboard, Can you share a pic of your new bike. We love pics , ok I do

Looks like I will need to post at least one more time (if I'm understanding how things work around here) to be able to post pictures/update profile, etc. Just carry one with the discussion ;-)

Aaaand, no dice. I've been using Photobucket for third party hosting and it appears it has changed it's business model and is now charging for this service. Any recommendations on a good photo sharing service with free third party hosting (sigh)?

Very nice, Thx!

What if any mods have been done ?

No mods that I can tell. Appears to be completely stock. Has some warts/pimples but not too bad for an almost 15 year old mc. PO stripped top hole on clutch cover which was causing some weeping. I had to retap hole to 5/16 to get cover to secure all the way around. Spring on right side/brake foot peg went awol before I got it (will need to find a spring for it). Spring on left side/clutch peg was incorrectly put back on so no tension on peg. That's sorted now. Exhaust is a little worse for wear so I may decide to swap that out. Dunno. Have some things to do over the winter.

I know nothing about these bikes as I've been/am into early 80's Japanese mc's.

Sounds over all good shape,
These guys know everything on this board.
