I had the exact same issue this summer on my 09 XB12Ss. The bearing for the clutch basket went bad. They were on national back order from Harley for over 2 months but I found a the same bearing from NAPA at 1/3 the cost. I don't have it in front of me right now but when I get home from work I can post up the part number. Once you have the bearing all you will need is access to a bearing press and it's easy peasy!

I read more of the posts and thought I could shed a little more light on some things, The proper tool to compress the spring would be the best choice but it is fairly simple with just a 1/4"-5/16" ring cut from a piece of pipe with a diameter big enough that will compress the spring but leave you enough room to remove the snap ring. I used the pipe ring with a piece of flat bar going across it and then used the stud & adjusting nut to compress the spring.
The second ting is that the bluing on the starter teeth is from it being heat treated from the factory. It surface hardens the teeth so they have better wear characteristics without having to harden the whole piece which would make it brittle and unable to flex under the torque load. Once you have it removed and if it is that blue throughout the entire clutch basket I would suspect that your clutch pack is burnt toast. If it did get that hot you may want to have it checked out to make sure it is not warped or cracked. Hope that helps.

Thanks guys.
I was really worried about th blueish color not so much now.
Wheres the best and cheapest place to buy clutch tool.

Raz if u get a chance post that part number for me.
I hope its nothing besides the bearings

NAPA part # HK4020. I can't point you to the best cheapest clutch tool as I made my own. You will also need the tool(short bar) that goes between the primary & clutch teeth so you will be able to break the nut loose in order to remove the clutch basket. Pay special attention to the order of removal. I ended up having to put the clutch back together because it is needed to keep things from just spinning when trying to break the nut loose. While you have it apart I would borrow a micrometer to measure your plates & friction discs to make sure they are within spec. If your oil was burnt, I would suspect they need replaced.
The root cause of this bearing failure is two fold. Water contamination and wheelies. Lol. While I had mine apart I replace all gaskets and the oring where the clutch cable goes into the primary. I also put grease inside the clutch cable adjustment boot and zip tied both ends of it to keep water from entering. Long winded I know, but I hope I was able to help.

Thanks man

I allready have clutch out just gotta find a tool to use for getting clutch plates out.

I just had some step on the rear brake for me came rite loose. Really didnt seem all that tight to be honest (giggty).

Can I use a caliper tool on the plates and friction disc?

Also are the cluch springs supposed to roll around in there spots or are they supposed to sit in there tight??

Because all of mine except for one rare rolling around and flop around in there spots?

Figured out where the metal came from.
Back side of big starter gear.

Anything else guys?

Im gonna closey inspect everything tommrow again.

Sorry for so many questions guys..

What are the chances of it being something internally wrong?

Just to mention ive also checked wheel bearings, front pully shaft bearing.
Only thing I havent done is pull the front primary off and check behind that where the stator is.

Lunatic this confused me? So no matter what its the stator?
no sir. always keep in mind that XB's are very simple machines and simple to trouble-shoot. what i told the man to do is narrow down the problem to the precise area that is emitting the noise. his description suggested "whining" noise coming from primary area. i instructed him how to narrow it down to either front primary components or rear primary components. i did not imply or specifically tell him faulty stator. and from what he recently posted my diagnosis method would have worked for him.

Lunatic im doing that as we speak

But I have a question for you.

My primary cover and stuff is off rite now?
Will that matter

I rolled it down hill twice once with the primary chain and primary gears and clutch installed and one just plain shafts. Whined the same both ways. Sounds like a bearing internally?
