Motorcycle Hitch Hauler

air filter can be changed with no issues regards to warranty. They cant outright void an entire warranty. In fact you can change anything and the only way they can deny a warranty claim is prove the modification you made caused the part in question to fail. If you put a lift kit on and your window motor burns out there is no correlation there so it would still be covered.

Wanted to put exhaust filter and chip and dealer told me no take it up will Dodge.Because the chip will allow truck to go over 120mph.

yea a chip gets a little more tricky with warranty issues especially with powertrain stuff but a filter and exhaust wont cause any headaches im sure.

i have a tune on my audi and i just shut it off the one time i had it in for warranty work.

konarider94 I will call Dodge this week about filter, exhaust til I get a direct answer and let you know.

you dont have to let me know. i dont own one lol . some dealerships sell brand new trucks with lift kits and other aftermarket accessories. read about the Magnuson–Moss Warranty Act.

that being said if there are specific terms in your warranty that would suck. also if the dealer you go to are pricks about it its going to be a lot harder than its probably worth to try and fight them on it.

Mopar makes a CAI and exhaust for your Durango if your worried about voiding a lifetime warranty!

I'm driving and FJ Cruiser and basically the consensus on the forums is that using this http://www.purefjcruiser.com/hitch-...rrier-with-ramp-option-vhsport-ro-p-4965.html ....... is a bad idea, because the tongue weight is rated at 500lbs for my car. I'm assuming the XB12Ss will be tipping the scales around 450lbs, then I would have to factor in an additional 100lbs or so going over large dips and bumps.

What is the danger of hauling around the XB12 on a hauler like that? Will it bend and warp the hitch? Or is it simply too much for the rear suspension to handle?

it depends on what the hitch itself is rated for. If its factory and that is the rating they give I probably wouldn't do it. If you added an aftermarket class 4 hitch then go for it. It wouldnt be too hard to add air bags or air shocks to help out the rear suspension if you have a strong enough hitch.

I put together this rig for advanced riding school and track days. My wife and I do one a month from May-Sept and got tired of renting or borrowing trailers.

The trailer is a 5x8 mesh floor with ramp from Tractor Supply. I got a 5x8 sheet of 5/8 sheathing plywood and sealed all sides of it with paint. The top is coated in textured outdoor porch/floor paint to keep the bikes from sliding while loading or unloading. Our driveway is pretty steep, so this had been a great feature. Wheel chocks are from Harbor Freight, and are sturdy and safe. Not the greatest chocks, but for $30 a piece they'll work until we drop the big bucks on a pair of Pit Bull Trailer Restraints. The chocks are bolted to the frame members of the trailer at the rear, and through the plywood and mesh at the front with 3" diameter fender washers. I drilled the top rails and installed u-bolts for tie down anchors. All hardware is stainless steel, with nylock nuts everywhere. The trailer is just big enough for two bikes, still small enough to fit underneath our deck for storage, and light enough to easily walk it up a steep hill in the yard.

All of that cost us $650, and a couple days of work on the weekends. Oh, and we tow it with my wife's Durango R/T (seen here in pony-hauling guise). When kept under 70mph, the bike trailer costs about 1 mpg with two bikes and all of our track gear (EZ-up, chairs, cooler, tool bag, riding gear, my fat ass) loaded up.

That's awesome dude, I wish I had somewhere to store a trailer like that. I think this thread is for guys with limited space looking for a solution to haul around their bike.

I just bought a hitch mount carrier very similar to the one in the OP's link at an end-of-season sale for $70. I plan to load a 300lb dual-sport on it, but I've seen plenty of other folks hauling around full size sport bikes on them too.

Personally I'm not 100% confident in how it's engineered so I'm currently beefing it up with extra members prior to using it. I'll post pics once I'm done.

I did a little more research and you are right konarider94.....the consensus is that there should be a class IV hitch to use something like a Versahaul. Also, if the motorcycle is frequently hauled like that, you might start seeing some premature sag in the back. I guess maybe its not that bad if you are looking for an excuse to upgrade your springs and shocks ASAP :D

I just got done hauling my bike over 2,000 miles on a Hitch Mount Motorcycle Carrier. It worked great! Had it on the back of my Jeep Liberty

That's interesting, a Liberty has a class III hitch with a tongue weight between 300-500lbs. Maybe the tongue weights are estimated very conservatively? You carried around an XB?

I agree that seems like a lot for a liberty. Im sure hitches are rated quite conservatively but fatigue would worry me. I carried my xb around on a hitch hauler with a 2005 5.7L hemi grand cherokee. I believe tongue capacity was 720 lbs on that and it squatted the rear of it pretty good.

If i kept the jeep i was going to get a set of air bags that fit inside the coil springs. Its a great way to add extra suspension only when you need it. A coworker put a set on his honda pilot for when he loads it up on family vacations. Check out http://www.airliftcompany.com/ The kit is pretty cheap. If you replace the whole spring with a heavier one the ride will be harsh when its not loaded.

Or see if monroe makes a set of maxair shocks for it. http://www.monroe.com/en-US/products/Max-Air

I might have to get that airlift installed. Price is right though. Plus it has more use than just hauling. Good info.
