Got hit yesterday morning going through an intersection. The car made a left turn right as I got to him. I came off the bike, flipped over, landed, and slid to a stop. Tried to stand but my left leg was jacked so I crawled out of the street. Broken left foot and huge chunk of my left thigh ripped open. Got real lucky as my helmet never contacted anything. My ass sure did though. I've got some decent road rash there. Had surgery to repair my thigh but luckily my foot wasn't too bad and I'm just wearing a boot. Didn't get a chance to see the bike afterwards but we are picking it up from the tow yard today.I've been a long time lurker here and I don't post much but im Laying here bored and in pain and just wanted to share my story.

My dainese jacket and gloves saved my arm and hands for sure. I'll definitely be getting some leg protection now.

Sorry to hear, but glad you're still around and not worse!

Heal quickly. Bikes can be replaced, people not so much.

desertdog: my thoughts are with you and hoping you'll enjoy a speedy full recovery. a few observations on your horrific episode: if the cage operator's insurance rep/adjuster gives you any bullshit whatsoever, immediately contact your insurance agent to inform him or her of same, and hire a top notch crash lawyer. i hate suits but in some instances they're necessary for your own financial and emotional well-being.
with the prolific amount of buffoons on our roads always remember these 2 cardinal rules of road riding:
1-ride as if you're invisible. to many of these idiots you indeed are
2-when approaching any intersection, alley, driveway or entrance and you see a vehicle there that may come across your bow....cover your controls, be prepared to chop the throttle, and look at the front wheel closest to you. hone in on that wheel. if you see it start to rotate immediately prepare for evasive action. same thing works for an oncoming left-turner. hone in on the driver if possible and watch for any steering wheel movement. that single observation often clues you in as to their intentions.

^^This guy knows his shit. Listen to him.

Sorry to hear, but glad you're still around and not worse!

Same here [up] Hopefully the bike isn't beyond repair either. welcome to the forum too by the way. Here's to a speedy recovery, cheers [up]

Hey glad to hear your OK, get better fast. I actually have a very similar approach to lunaticfringe when I ride, especially in the city (Chicago) where I use to do a lot of my riding. I always assume that someone will cut me off blow a light or something. When I come to intersections cover my controls, slow down a little to get a better view of whats going on, and then I gun it to get out of there. Also very important to watch the vehicles wheels when you ride. For example if your riding on the highway with a car in the lane next to you and you are going same speed, watch the front wheels from time to time because if the driver does any steering or weaving the front wheels will be the first thing to move. Shit man, that sucks. Glad to hear your doing ok. I hate seeing these sort of posts. It kills me that people just don't pay attention enough to motorcycles. I sometimes ride in to work, and driving through the bronx is a task in itself let alone riding with these stupid cab/car services. Get well fast man.[up]

Looks like the bike isn't too bad looking considering i was going about 40mph

Did the puck come off the left side? I can't tell if it's a shadow, dent, or the puck ground down.

[up]Glad to hear you are doing well with all things considered.

insurance will try a total write off from looking at the damage. Glad you made it through it. This forum really pushes for protective gear just for reasons like this. Recover soon. If you plan to keep it and repair, contact UMDterp and ask about parts. He should have close to everything you need from the looks of it.

Sorry for the bad cell phone pics. The puck is still there actually, its just a little ground down.
