Oh and sorry I left so many folks hanging on this project. The failure was completley unexpected and very serious. I am glad no one had this on their bike when it failed.

wow glad to see your ok, thats what matters.

Ever thought of drilling and taping the rod(solid I assume). Then bolting it to the plate mount and mounting bracket flush?
Even if you did it after welding as a safety feature.

Dang Evlbx, sorry to hear about the unfortunate mishap. Hope the bike is ok!![sad]

People were just mentioning how the welds on those brackets would probably break. Thanks for letting us know, since a lot of us are getting interested in making our own designs. [up]

That is why Chris did his the way I have shown below and have the other thread about. No welds no worry on the breakage. Just use lock washers as supplied and you should be all set. Plus it is only $20.

Samniam - I would keep an eye on your welds. The risk for reward is a concerm.

Thanks for the heads up evlxb. i checked on it and it seems fine. my dude who welded it together has about 15 years exp. as a welder and 10 yrs as an ironworker so i trust his welds but ill def. take ur advice seriosly.

Ya, cops don't like duct tape over the #'s of your plate.. LOL

No kiddin, funny thing is im leavin the carryout this mornin on my way 2 work and i noticed some duct tape on my plate:)

Sam - I took a second look at your design and I think you will be better off. I ground off alot of the weld where the bracket mounts to the swing arm and I think I went too far. It looks like yours has much more fillet to it. Mine was flush to the tubes. I am in the process of building a new prototype for myself - I may 'borrow' your idea on the bracket. I would still like to incorporate some sort of rubber isolator though. I'm using hollow tubing to save on weight... is yours solid or hollow.

My tubing is hollow and i also noticed my mounting bracket is different than yours(L bracket) which allows for more weld.

I am Rod... was playing over at Silver Lake sand dunes for the last week. Wsup?

Good to know my local law enforcment friends are looking out for me...... in a good way that is. :D
