Hi new to the site, I owned a S3 Thunderbolt years ago and just picked up a XB9R so i got a few questions first i see some of the bikes have a screen by the gas cap in the air box cover and second the primary and trans share oil if I`m correct unlike a big harley v twin right.

Welcome!!!!! its a great forum! you'll love the firebolt!!!! Post some pictures of it.

But the little vent near the gas cap came about a few years after the firebolt came out, it was just for more air flow into the airbox, if your bike doesnt have the bent it really wont need it. You can mod it to add something like it yourself, or get a different airbox cover.

Some newer bikes have the air inlet screens on the airbox. Older ones like my '03 have air drawn in through the frame via a tube on the left side of the bike. All the airbox covers are interchangeable, i think.
Yes, the primary and trans share the same oil. Holds 1 quart only. Very easy to change. I personally run HD formula + and change it when i change my engiine oil, but everyone has their favourite. At the top of the page is a sevice manual, i recommend downloading it, super helpful, and everyone on here is too. Any questions, just fire away. Welcome!

Thanks guys I gotta paint it or vinyl wrapped before I post pics its kinda ugly right now might even just murder it out,

I'm sure its not too ugly to post pics, plus then you can show the progress! I like the all black murdered out look myself.

Its a 03 I bought in texas last week and trailered home to michigan its gonna be my winter project, it runs and rides has a pipe and k&n air filter right now not sure what else has been done.

Wowzers some ricer gsxr wannabe got to it. I would have has to cover it just to trailer it.

Yeah it aint real pretty right now but I can fix that I`m thinking black on one side orange on the other with a white stripe down the center not really sure what way to go just yet.

while Blue/White is usually my favorite color, I'm sitting here reevaluating my decision on that......

Its not to bad . Must have gotten a steal to drive all the way to texas for it.

But 1st off.... Do you own Dirty Daves on Hwy 411 i think maybe in Tennessee??;)

LOL nah I dont own Dirty daves and I was visiting family in Texas when I found the bike so at 2grand I couldnt pass it up.

mirrors have been upgraded:D

your color combo though could also use an upgrade...

way too HD...ish, unless you do it like the old Buell tuber racer paint scheme of orange wheels and front fender, white, black, and orange body panels, orange stripe down the center from tank to tail, think the upper part of the front fairing was orange and the lower was white, had #46 on it, yeah that otta do it:D

Dirty Dave, I think thats about the WORST paint scheme Ive ever seen on a XB! haha

You may be able to find some kind of plastic-safe paint remover and take that down to the original plastic finish and then just buff it out with some buffing compound. Do you have any idea what color the original plastic was? Yellow maybe? White?
