2003 XB9R.....my brake light doesn't work at all while engaging the front or rear brake. Running light functions perfectly. I have tried replacing the bulb which yielded the same result. Would it matter if I'm not using a Harley/Buell part? I am assuming any dual filament bulb of the correct wattage/voltage ratings would work considering the running llght worked with both the current bulb and the one I bought at Napa. Every thread I have googled so far says the likelihood of both brake switches going out at the same time is very low.

Where would you start the diagnosis? Any help would be appreciated!

Mine turned out to be the prongs in the fuse box..it was intermittent....the horn is on the same circuit...so now i periodically tap the horn while im riding to make sure the fuse hasnt gotten loose...

And you dont have to use a harley or buell part.
Remimds me of the old joke:
Q) How many Harley riders does it take to change a bulb?
A) Change the bulb!? Why? That's what the warranty is for!

I would follow all of the above advice. In addition to that advice I would take a look at the connector on the left side of the rear subframe. I think you'll have to remove your seat and loosen/remove your rear plastics to get a good look at it. This will also give you an opportunity to test the plug for voltage and what not. Just my 2cents
