Rode home in the rain the other day, not by choice, but it was around a 35 mile ride and the rain wasn't super heavy but there was enough for me to be soaked. Anyway i noticed about halfway through my ride home that my bright light indicator on the dash was on but i hadn't turned on my bright light. I didn't think anything of it at the time so when i got home i turned the bike off and went about my day as usual. The next time i went to start my bike, a few hours later, i knew something was wrong right away. The bright light indicator was still on when the bright light its self was off, the rpm and mph gauge needs didn't do the full sweep like the needles normally do, the odometer wasn't showing anything as if the bike its self was all the way off, and the fuel pump wont prime the system.

I have been trying to go through and trouble shoot stuff with the manual but haven't had any luck so far. Anyone have any suggestions/tips/advice?

I bet something got wet. :D Sorry I don't have any real advice here I mean it sounds like a short somewhere, and I am no electrician so I don't know where to begin. Check battery, and fuse block to insure dry?

Wet is a yes, although i am wondering why i am having an issue now when ive washed my bike numerous times and with a power washer i might add, and never had this issue. Battery is good, fuse block is good, all of the fuses and relays checked out alright. Sounds like i am to the point where i have to start tearing it apart and go from there? Oh and on a side note, i discovered that when i hold the clutch in i can hear the relay switch clicking on and off as i hit the started button. No fuel pump, gauges, and the damn bright light indicator is still on is still on.

Check fuses, water could have also gotten into the lighting switch and shorted something causing that light to come on.

Maybe something got wet in the cluster you could take the plug out of the back of cluster its a shot?

If there are they are just spare parts that Erik hid in the bike for you! :D

Been tinkering with it, checked everything to make sure it wasn't wet, including the cluster. This time when i tried it i pulled in the clutch lever and the neutral light lit up on the dash, so i tried to start it and the starter clicked about 5 times like it does when the battery is about dead or dying. Would this indicate and point to the neutral safety switch being the problem?

I have been doing some research and I found a thread and inside it was the BCRider jump wire method to get the trouble codes to come up. As i read it, the check engine light is supposed to be the one flashing when you use the jump wire on the 1 and 2 pin. I have attempted this three times with the same result. The bright light indicator is the one that is flashing instead of the check engine light. Not only is it flashing it continues to flash after I turn the ignition off and pull the key out.

Does anybody have any ideas whatsoever on this? I'm lost and would rather not take my bike to HD to get it fixed. Something about $100+ hr shop rate that doesnt sit well with me.

You might try taking apart the high/low beam switch. That's where I would start. Good luck, electrical problems are a real pain.

This keeps getting better and better....I ordered the trouble code dongle from ASB last week and got it in the mail yesterday. got home from work and i immediately tried it out. Plugged it in, turned the bike on, and waited....for nothing to happen. Let the bike sit for 2 minutes or more waiting to see some trouble codes and nothing ever happened. My question is, So now what? I am lost

Talked with Al from ASB, who wants a good laugh for the day? All of my problems were due to the underside of the main chassis ground that went bad. Out of sight out of mind apparently. Kicking myself for that one but I can't thank Al enough for the help. Class act, I would recommend anyone contacting him as a resource for any problems.

I came across your problem while trouble shooting another. I removed the ground from the input cluster and this caused the high beam light to show, even though the high beam was not on. Maybe you have a loose ground connection some place.
