Just wondering if anyone with the netbooks/laptops for logging and what not have ever used a HD web cam and windows movie maker to capture rides instead of vholder or Gopro. I take my eeepc with me most of the time anyway, just wonder if anyone else has done this.

I have spent all evening modding my windows movie maker to except my new hd vid cam"s video's. I had to add new avi codecs. It is working now but 1080 hd runs slow. I just turned it down to 720 hd. I am still learning how to edit. I hope by spring i will know what im doing. I need to get creative with some velcro for a helmcam. :D

I dont know if you can call a $300 laptop with a $100 camera hooked to it a "poor man's action cam." Which webcam do you use, and how do you mount it? I have been looking at action cam ideas, and I am leaning towards cheap digital point-and-shoots that record video and have a tripod base. One of the things that the GoPro provides is a polycarb case that should be able to take a rock to the face. Since nothing else I am looking at has that, I am thinking cheaper stuff, to make it a little easier for it to be disposable.

Its just the fact that I already own this stuff that makes it cheap.

My update, I stole the eye toy from my kids PS2 and downloaded the driver so I can use it as a web cam. The pitcher is supper clear and im going to use some 3M Velcro to mount it to my bike or me or somewhere. Im using window movie maker (came loaded) to capture.
