I'm searching for new tires and narrowed my pick down to these three tires. I've had good luck with the PP 2cts in the past, but I hear that the Power Pures have a little more grip, I never would have considered the Dunlop Q2 Sportmax tires, but I just recently read in a British magazine that the Q2s won in a tire shoot out. I'll be sticking to stock sizes. I did read LeFox's tire posts, but 2 of the above tires haven't made it on there. I pretty much ride curvey, non-wet backroads on the California Central Coast.

I have a pilot power on the rear and a 2CT on the fron and am pretty happy. I too didn't think much of the Dunlops since I had the older Q's and didn't like them. The new ones I hear are fantastic.

I have the dunlop Q2's , I like them a lot more than the stock pirellis. They seem to handle much better, grip is better and they seem smoother riding as well.

I have the 2cts and love them.my buddy has the Q2s and says there great I don't think you would go wrong with either

I have the 2CTs and I've been pretty happy with them. Took them on a 550+ mile trip from Northern Cali to Southern and not a flat spot to be had. Check out jackwilson.com enter the code JW002 and get some cash off.

I have had power power and the power pure tires (and road 2's that I will reference but not review because you aren't considering them)

power
is not as good in the wet as the pure and is only a single compound but that compound is awesome, very confidence inspiring in dry corners. they do not take well to long highway sprints at all, they tend to get a serious flat top (they start new a little flat) and get EVEN MORE squirmy in the wet. before I reached my wear bars they would easily spin coming off from red lights and lock stopping for lights.
warm up time was excellent

power 2CT
exactly the same as the standard power except for the last tiny bit, probably less than an inch so if you lean all your chicken strips away you will benefit from the dual compound but I cant justify it, I can get down to 1/4 of unused tire left on the standard power and still feel glued to the road.

power pure
all I can say is WOW, these tires are a step up in every way from the power. better wet grip about the same warm up time better wear down the center but still nice ans soft on the sides. the second compound on these tires is several inches wide instead of just a narrow band. the center compound is not as ridiculous hard as the road 2 so it has better acceleration and more importantly better braking performance.

in my experience all the pilot tires are very predicable when pushed to the bitter edge, the road 2 was the best when the road got dirty (or wet) followed by the pure then the power, if it was dry clean and hot I think the standard power had the edge with its contact patch shape and low tread void area, and the pure is the best all around tire.

Excellent review Delta One and thanks. I've been leaning towards the Pure and you may now have convinced me. I"m going to start looking around for some after Christmas sales.

You know there's nothing like having a new set of tires on your bike, new tires make me want to ride all day long, but coughing up the money for them really sucks.

My next set of tires will be Power Pure as well. They are considerably lighter than the Pilot Power 2CT I am currently running, and the weight loss is where it is most needed. It is like a cheap wheel upgrade.

that's a nice comparison photo of the second compounds.

the weight loss is not a big deal for most of us that are street riding, you will not be fighting a significantly different force with the loss of mass.

does it still help? yes it does but you will feel it more in a 120MPH sweeper than you will on a 50MPH cloverleaf

I guess what I am saying is don't make it the basis of your decision.
if you do 100 miles a day you should pick up the road 2's if you are riding in the dry mostly pick up the power, especially for a track bike, the contact patch and low replacement cost will be much better than the loss of un-sprung weight, at least until you go to a race tire.

I haven't worn a set out yet, in fact I'm not even sure how many miles I have on them now.

Fantastic grip. :)
They both wear almost identical so plan on replacing them as a pair
